“All this for a flag ?” — The First Wookiee
In England of all places!
NEVER dip the flag to a person or thing.
Then he'd pull of the trifecta by taxing the crap out of it.
The American Flag bows to no earthly king or potentate.
When I was four or five my mom and I would spend summers at a rooming house on B112th street in Rockaway NY. There was an very large elderly man who lived there for the whole summer. My dad told me always to respect him because he was a great patriot. Years later he explained to me that the eldery gentleman was Pat MacDonald who won shot put Golds in 1912 and 1920. He carried the flag in ‘12 and he continued the tradition begun by his friend and teammate Ralph Rose. “This flag dips to no earthly king.”
I had to look it up in Wikipedia
To dip a flag that is being carried means to lower it by turning it forward from an upright position to 45° or horizontal. This is done as a sign of respect or deference.
(It is done by lowering to half mast and returning to full mast position.)(See below.)
To dip the flag on a merchant vessel passing a naval vessel involves lowering the stern flag (the country flag) to the half-mast position and back to the truck as the vessels pass abeam of each other. The half-mast position in this case being one flag width from the truck as in the case of half mast.
Some jurisdictions have laws that discourage or prohibit the dipping of the national flag; these include the United States (with its non-binding flag code), India, Philippines and South Africa.
Only with an anti-American thug in the WH would this ever be a consideration.
Obama is just bound and determined to humiliate America at every turn.
So... if US law says NO DIPPING of OUR FLAG, then why is there even a question about doing it ?
Are all the countries going to dip their flags as well?
What are we dipping it for ? Did someone die?
Dude, you invaded Canada: suck it up. Or learn from it: after all you may want to set fire to the White House yourselves one day.
As for the poll: no way should you dip your flag if you don’t want to. FReeped.
The American Flag is NEVER “dipped” for anyone or anything.
