Utah dig unearths large Fremont Indian structure

Archaeologists have struck gold at a dig near the town of Goshen about 35 miles south of Provo: the largest Fremont Indian structure ever found.

Jim Allison, anthropology professor at Brigham Young University, said the 850-square-foot structure is unique because it served as a communal area that brought the entire village together.

It’s several times larger than typical Fremont structures, which average between 80 and 90 square feet.

The site dates from about 1000-1100 AD, and is part of the Fremont Culture (700-1300 AD) of Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and Idaho.

I read that they found the government loan papers.

Of course, everyone knows that Fremont was more than a little political so we'll skip that.

Anyways, there is likely diary after diary of his adventure and map after map and someone finally nailed it.

This was obviously a communal endeavor. Fits right in with today’s government planning. John C was political, but not a progressive sense. I’d say this was named after some other Fremont, “Freeloader” Fremont, perhaps. He was known for his pilfering from others...
