Archaeologists say they have found a complete skeleton buried beneath the floor of an abandoned nunnery in Florence, Italy, which might belong to Lisa Gherardini, the woman believed to have inspired Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa.
The bones were found beneath the remains of an altar in the church of the now derelict Convent of St. Orsola.
"That altar was certainly in use at Lisa Gherardini's time," said Valeria D'Aquino, an archaeologist at the Tuscan Superintendency

I thought the story a few months ago that somebody was claiming that she was a he?
That's the way, uh huh, uh huh...
I think DaVinci photoshopped it to make it look like a 'she'.

Did he do birth certificates and Selective Service registrations on the side?
Regardless of who they dug up they do not have the right to do so
da vinci’s original ‘cartoon’ sketches of “Mona” are in either the British Collection or the Queen’s private collection. I saw them on line once.
He originally - on what we call the Mona Lisa painting, had her holding a plant stock that would, it seem, be a clue to who he was actually depicting...and no, it wasn’t himself. I have my theory on that which I may one day follow up on and write on.
I also have seen a copy of the original sketch of Lisa del Giocondo - which looks very different. The husband, Francesco, comminssioned da Vinci to paint his wife. Before it was completed, there was a falling out and the painting never went to del Giocondo.
the painting he later did - titled “The Mona Lisa” - (labeled by whom?) was done after the falling out with the del Giocondos.
As I understand it, there are specialists who can reconstruct a face from the skull... shoud be interesting.
What godless liberal academic would commit the sacrilege of digging up the grave of a woman, because her image has been immortalized by a famous painter?
It’s her grave; she expected to be there for eternity; put her back and let her rest in peace.
