Speculation is rising that Microsoft will formally introduce the Windows Tablet next Monday - with the tech giant holding a mysterious event in San Francisco. AllThingsD, a respected tech site, say sources have told them that this is a tablet event, introducing the software and the first apps which will run on the system. Early models of Windows tablets have been spotted at tech shows in Japan, with Acer among the manufacturers building the hardware. It will be big news If Microsoft reveals an in-house tablet - one manufactured by Microsoft itself or perhaps by its latest bedfellow Nokia - as the company has generally stayed away from making direct hardware outside the peripheral market.

Better late than never. I would love to see a tablet version of MS Office, especially Outlook. I’ve got no real complaints with my Ipad, it’s just that my business runs in the MS universe and I’d love that compatibility. I would note that the IPad version of MS Onenote is not bad at all.
Same here. My company does security assessments and we use a ton of checklists when we do our testing and interviews at customer sites.
We have been dragging big bulky laptops around with us for years, and lately the boss has been playing with an android tablet using quickoffice. That works pretty well but we lose a lot of the formatting that we have in the forms at times.
A windows tablet running the office suite would be absolutely perfect for our needs.
I seem to remember they introduced a tablet computer years ago, but nobody wanted it then.
I just got a new ap for my tablet for picking the loser this November.
Wow, bet the Winows phone users will be lining up around the block to get their hands on one, all ten’s of ones of them....
I’ll take “Tach Failures Like the Zune” for 600 Alex.
Tech ping
Bought one earlier this year. Acer W500. Like a mini-laptop.

I still have my basic zune, love it, it works great, and the zune software gives me no issues.....not sure what was the issue folks had with it....
In large part because they tried to make it a desktop computer in tablet form factor. Too slow, too power-hungry.
Microsoft's general tendency to try and be all things to all people all of the time is something they need to get over if they're going to be successful in the mobile space.
Office is rumored to be coming to the iPad this November.
There are strong rumors that Microsoft is planning an Office app for both iOS and Android this year (likely after the official Win8 launch). No idea of how full-featured it will be, or whether it would include Outlook.
I’m sure Apple is shaking in their boots. Just like they were after the release of the Zune, the Windows 7 phone, etc.
And as a related item, I'd really like to see if Metro can hold its own. An artist friend of mine says it looks terrific and will sell well. We have a bet. :)
