The police chief in the Alabama city of Auburn said early Sunday that authorities responded overnight to a report of multiple gunshot victims at an apartment complex, but he added he was not immediately releasing any further information.
Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson told the Opelika-Auburn News that police answered a report of multiple shooting victims Saturday night but he had no immediate comment on the situation, the circumstances involved or whether anyone was in custody.
The newspaper reported that several emergency vehicles had converged on the University Heights apartment complex where a number of students who attend Auburn University typically reside.

Yep....I wonder if the shooter was a white hispanic on a neighborhood watch patrol.....
I've read that over and over and I need clarification. Vines is one of the assailants or is he one of the ones who was attacked? If the victims did the shooting, how could they be victims? I understood Christian and Phillips to be the victims. Christian didn't shoot anyone. He was dead at the scene.
That account has Vines throwing the first punch and his friend breaking a bottle on someone's head; I could understand the use of deadly force in such a case if the shooters' feared for their lives. Of course the shooters may have been carrying weapons illegally and may have shot innocent bystanders after the shooters were assaulted. I wonder if the girl was there as a sexual toy for the team ... that might explain it, but that has not been mentioned; curious that her presence leading to the fight is being covered up.
I find that [lack of info about the girl] curious, too.
If it’s black-on-black it’s gone in one news cycle.
but still Bush's fault.
Turquorius Vines, who is not a student at Auburn, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he was partying with several friends, including former Auburn football players, at the University Heights complex a couple of miles from campus shortly before midnight when the gunfire broke out. It was about a female, Vines told the AJC Sunday morning. It started from a female. We were trying to get away from the trouble and it ended up right in our face. The party went from us chilling with all these females to a massacre for no reason at all, Vines said. It happened so quick, in about a second.

Not in this town, it won’t. FWIW, we’re still mad about our trees. We see this as ... words fail me. I was in Auburn in 1966 when Eddie Seibold murdered the Sinclair and Durant girls. We have not forgotten that, either.
All: if what I read is correct, Vines and his friend, his dead friend, were the perps and that the others were protecting themselves. A bottle is a lethal weapon.
Thanks for the info.
I should have said it's gone from the national news in one cycle.
“LaDarious” “Turquorius” ??!!
I realize it’s tragic when young people die like this, way before their time, but it’s difficult not to smile at some of the names. What were their parents (parent) thinking?
Is there a thread somewhere about these types of names?
The shooting apparently came after an argument and then a fight. The argument apparently did not involve any of the three victims, who were apparently killed when one of the men involved in the fight returned and began firing indiscriminately. phillip marshall
Marshall is a sportscaster here in Alabama.
Im finding it harder to care more than them about it.
I don't think the wave of violence we're seeing among Amish youth is anything to make light of.
Not the sorta news a parent wants to read on Sunday morning with their just graduated high school daughter heading to Auburn in a few weeks. Thank goodness she will be in the residence halls on campus.
The only thing I can say is that it doesn’t often happen here. I also can assure you that if a person is in the center of God’s will they are completely safe. The truth is there is no place in this world that is “safe” according to a human definition. We’re all gonna die!
I love the feel of the town of Auburn. I feel very safe sending her there vs. to Georgia Tech or MIT or CalTech. She will be in the honors dorm at The Village and we’ll be heading to our session of War Eagle Camp in just a couple of weeks and then early move-in since she will be trying out for marching band. Exciting times for our family as she is our oldest child. We’ve only been to Auburn a couple of times for Honor Band weekends the past two years and have really enjoyed those visits.
I hope she makes it into the band. It has a special comeraderie about it. Who knows? She might meet her husband there. I did.
War Eagle!
AUBURN, Alabama — Former Auburn football players Ed Christian and Ladarious Phillips were shot to death and current player Eric Mack has a gunshot wound and is in the hospital following a Saturday night shooting at an apartment complex near the campus, according to two people familiar with the incident.
Two other people, perhaps more, may have been shot.
A source said Mack “will be all right.”

The band kids are really great, they were in middle and high school so I’d expect the same for college. One of her friends from high school, his first year (he’ll be a jr. this year) was able to march in the Championship game his first year and another friend that went to the “other” school was able to march in the Championship game this past year.
I still haven’t got quite use to saying War Eagle at all the meetings and such . . . but I’m sure I’ll get there soon enough.
And the three players who were shot, and whose names have been mentioned, those three were two 300 pound linemen and a 290 pound fullback. If the shooter(s) were of average size, the size difference could be used as something that caused a heightened fear and increased justification for self-defense.
