According to Metsblog, Bill Maher has ponied up $20million to buy an interest in the New York Mets. Any Mets fans here, like myself, may be thrilled that Santana pitched that first Met no hitter before this news went public. Being a Mets fan just became infinitely difficult.

“I find it amazing that a man with as little talent as Bill Maher has $20 million to spend.”
My thoughts exactly, how this man is able to make more than minimum wage is one of the great mysteries of the universe.

WOW. I really didn’t know that sleazeball was that rich. He is a washed up talk show host. Amazing.

I amazed he’s amassed 20 mil from his one hour a week on HBO. Does he do more that I don’t know about ? HBO is overpaying him.

Commissar Selig, aka the Emperor Without Clothes, aka Baseball's Version of Forrest Gump, will have no problem with Maher getting a share of one of "his" teams. Selig is a dyed-in-the-wool leftist 'Rat, so why should he?
If this were, say, Rush Limbaugh, he wouldn't even get a chance to talk about owning a even a minority share in a club. Conservatives need not apply. If I'm not mistaken, there hasn't been a Republican owning a significant part of a Major League Baseball franchise since George W. Bush left the Texas Rangers to run for governor of Texas. (That was 1994.) Selig will keep it that way as long as he's the Commissar.

It’s amazing that this talentless phuck has been able to amass $20 million to invest in anything.

As a diehard Mets fan I’m well rehearsed in ignoring who owns the team for several years now.

I think George Steinbrenner was a Republican. When I posted this i had truly forgotten about Rush’s effort to become a part owner of the Rams. Were he to try to buy a share of an MLB franchise, I’m sure he’d be denied.

"But Rush cant own an NFL team?"
But don't you know? Rush expressed opinions that could, given certain circumstances and contexts, be tenuously interpreted as being prejudicial against Blacks. (Although that conclusion is subject to serious challenge.)
Maher has on the other hand, leveled unambiguous attacks against Conservative men, Conservative women, Jews, Catholics, Evangelicals, gun owners, believers in traditional marriage, members of the US Military and probably several other groups and individuals that escape me at this moment.
So the lesson learned here is ..... if Rush were to be more broad based, crude, prolific and unambiguous in his assault on all with whom he disagrees, then his qualifications as a sports team owner would be above question.
Got that now?

I imagine he gets hot stock tips in exchange for his continued propagandizing. Straight from the DNC. Right before their decisions on major issues regarding said tips is announced.
An investigation into the mysterious wealth of many untalented libs would likely reveal interesting results.

Maybe they’ll give him the stadium job of enforcing the “no soft drinks > 16 ounces” law.

I think George Steinbrenner was a Republican. Think again. Look at his political contributions down through the years; the lion's share went to 'Rats. Yes, he got in trouble with his illegal contribution to the Nixon campaign, but Nixon was an exception to the rule, for whatever reason.

Freese took a dive in the ninth and the "crowd" of millionaires behind home plate was pathetic (they did stand with 2 strikes and 2 outs in the ninth though, must have figured out something important was going on.
The only real fan was assaulted by security and hauled away when he ran on the field to celebrate.
Maher and the Mets deserve each other.
I used to ride my bicycle 15 miles to Shea and climb a tree to look over the outfield fence to watch a game in the 70's, whats going on there now with the ticket prices is disgusting.

Something is wrong with a nation where someone like him can make enough to have $20 million to spend on anything.

The Mets fortunes have been relevant to Yankees fans exactly twice in history: In 1986, when I actually rooted for the Mets, and in 2000, when they were an overmatched WS opponent for a Yankees dynasty. And in those two series per season since 1997 when they meet in interleague play.
