Researchers found that compared with people who did not drink coffee, men who consumed six or more cups a day where 10 per cent less likely to die during the 14 years of the study.
For women there were 15 per cent fewer deaths for those drinking six cups or more.
The findings, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, showed that there was a marginal difference for men drinking one cup per day, but two drinking two to three cups a day were 10 per cent less likely to die, those drinking four or five cups per day were 12 per cent less likely to die than non coffee drinkers.
For women there was no effect seen for one cup or less per day. Those drinking two or three cups were five per cent less likely to die compared with those who drank none at all and those drinking four or five cups were 16 per cent less likely to die.
The researchers said the effect was seen across almost all causes of death including heart disease, respiratory disease, stroke, injuries and accidents, diabetes, and infections.

Wouldn’t that much coffee be hard on the kidneys, though?

I really pay no attention to this stuff. The scientists either don’t know what they are doing or else their results are predetermined based on who has provided funding for the current study.
Until next testing and they find out coffee is a horrible thing....one minute eggs are awful for you. The next, they are the greatest things on Earth. Just eat and drink what you want. It is insane for anyone to listen to anything the government tells you.
The important question is how coffee consumption affects flatulence, and thus global warming.

The truth is, everyone who eats eggs is alive, so they are good. However, everyone who eats eggs eventually dies, so they are also bad.
speaking from personal experience...nah, I’ll let that pass...LOL!!!
this news about coffee is not random. i am a complete addict and everything i’ve read about coffee is positive, in particular, large quantities — 6+ cups a day.
I’m gonna live forever!!!!!
:)
I used to drink coffee with sugar and cream, bad for you. My wife kept pestering me to drink it black. So I did, and she was right! I learned to just love it black, plus it is better for you.
NO IT’S NOT. I drink a pot of coffee everyday w/heavy cream and splenda.
yeccch! I used to be like that, more cream and sugar than coffee, Try drinking it black for a few days, you may actually learn to like it.
I’ll stick to my one cup of joe a day. Who wants to be a 90 year old geezer hooked on Starbucks just to squeeze a few more years out of the inevitable outcome.
I’ll take mine with just a splash of Crown Royal.

A lot of being able to drink it black has to do with the coffee itself and the water.
I drink it black at home because I use distilled water and one of the better Folgers grades, and it is delicious. Out and about I often find black coffee undrinkable because of the miserable taste.
I know a 90 year old who still drives, and is dating (no he is not rich, and she's in her 50s I think). He is absolutely intellectually intact, and looks like he's in his 60s. I'm sure his genes have something to do with it.
YEs, I agree, I can only drink black coffee made the way I like it. I HATE STARBUCKS!! SHItTtTIEST BLACK COFFEE EVER!
