EXCLUSIVE: Apple Has Destroyed 490,000 American Jobs
Business Insider ^ | May 1, 2012, 12:02 PM | Eric Platt and Ben Duronio

Posted on 05/04/2012 4:57:06 PM PDT by Swordmaker

After taking heat for shipping jobs to China and contracting to employers with questionable labor conditions, Apple (rather publicly) took credit for creating more than half a million jobs in the U.S.

514,000 to be exact.

That figure included nearly 50,000 employees in its retail network and its corporate headquarters, where products are designed.

But it also included FedEx and UPS employees who deliver its products and employees at Corning who make glass for iPads and iPhones.

So Apple basically counts anyone vaguely associated with the company or its products as a job that Apple created.

But what about the competitors Apple has bumped off in its relentless move to the top?

What about the once-profitable markets, products, and companies it has destroyed? What happened to those jobs?

Business Insider analyzed data on Bloomberg, went through dozens of 10-Ks, and read through layoff announcements to see how Apple's peers have done.

What we found:

Apple has destroyed nearly as many jobs as it helped create, eliminating some 490,570 positions.

You all buy the liberal propaganda.

How many smart phones are made in the U.S.A.? Zero. Most if not all are made in China. Even if assembled in other countries ( not the U.S.A. ) almost all smartphones are assembled from parts made in China.
http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-57389858-1/are-any-smartphones-not-made-in-china/

If the U.S.A “manufacturing” is so strong then why is not a single smart phone , personal computer , TV , radio, cell phone etc. made in the U.S. ? Go ahead prove me wrong .Show me that the U.S. manufactures smartphones( even one manufacturer?). And it's not just links that I have. I recently talked to many people at a cell phone convention. And they all told me they manufacturing in China because it is too expensive to manufacture in the U.S.A. (even some companies told me that the software programmers they use are in China.

Ditto for tens of thousands of other products like TVs, Ipads, kindles, radios etc.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-57389858-1/are-any-smartphones-not-made-in-china/

Lets also take a look at the steel industry. China ALREADY makes 44% of the world's steel. And this is rising. Soon China will counquer the world. The U.S. used to be at that level in the 40’s, 50’s , 60’s and 70’s. And then the U.S. was on top of the world in everything. Now even though the technology has improved exponentially, and the population is many times greater the U.S. makes less steel they it did in these decades, like the 1950’s. A lot of this U.S. “manufacturing” is power plants ,mining etc. which are not manufacturing and still manufacturing declined from 17 million to 11 million now around 3% of the population and you all say the U.s. is on top of the world in manufacturing? Even if TRUE if you look at the DECLINE in jobs etc. then what we have will soon be gone and that means we have further to fall. When manufacturing jobs will be 1% of the population will you all still say we are the world's manufacturing king. No sirs that title belongs to china. and those communist monsters are buying up our banks( yes the china government is buying U.S banks and politicians) all you enablers are helping these communist villains steal all our technology and wealth as they China destroy us.

Your comments show you have no regard for this country or its founding and you have drunk the globalist communist Kool-aid.

Your comments show that you are an authoritarian kook who would turn over our freedom to the government as long as you approved. The problem is that once the precedent is set, you won't get to decide whether you approve or not.

It is utter and complete nonsense to think that corporations or any other type of business have any obligation other than to the customers they serve. I can guarantee you that my father didn't swim ashore at Normandy to protect the government's right to dictate to us with whom we may do business.

I haven't read such a distorted view of the American Constitution for the ten years I've been hanging out here. Globalism is the formation of a one-world government -- NOT the freedom of the people of different nations to trade with each other.

You really should do yourself a favor and study some economics (start with the Austrians -- they're the only ones who make sense.) You will learn something and, one day, be thoroughly ashamed of your post.

You don't want government to tell corporations what they can and cannot do? What they can and cannot buy? Who they can buy from?

Since when? There may be medication you can take to reduce your confusion. Bad news, it's made by a US corporation. LOL!

You don’t believe in individual rights, only corporate rights. That is the basis of ‘free trade’ and the globalist communist system it presumes to construct.

If you think a corporation has no obligation except to themselves, which you do, then the American people have no obligation to keep trade lanes open for them, to protect them with the rule of law, or anything else that flows from the system set up by the Constitution.

Every argument you make has been made ad nauseum for the last decade by the free traitors ont his forum.

Underneath it all, you are not talking about the freedom of people to trade with people, but for corporations to be freed from any restraint set on them by sovereignty, borders, and cultural mores and morals of a nation. They are all ‘barriers to trade’ as the WTO has said numerous times.

Oh and what do you think the WTO is, created by GATT and the Doha round? It is nothing but a global government for ‘trade’. It is now being used as a tool to institute more global governance via cap and trade and the carbon tax. You of course know that but continue to push for the demise of our nation with your absurd comments about ‘corporate obligations’.

You all buy the liberal propaganda--

LOL!!  Here you are tootin' the UN's America bashing and so now I'm the lib-dupe?  Hey, I'm not talking politics, religion, or personalities here, I'm talking business.   I'm getting rich banking on the easy to confirm fact that US industrial production has been climbing for years and in spite of the downturn we're about to punch through to an all time high.

China's production is a matter of opinion, and while you and your UN China fans say China's doing better, most everyone else likes US output more.

To each his own, it's a free country.

You want the government to stay away while you trade with the enemy.

That’s all.

You love anyone who has money. Thats why you support trade with slavers, dictators and genocidal maniacs because if their product or service is cheap enough, then you want it, no matter what the cost to the country that has granted you your corporate status, and has defended your ability to move freely around the world with our military. You think the American people are tools to your end. It doesn’t matter if the communists you are ‘trading’ with are using it to bring our country to destruction. You’ve made your money. Now move to Singapore.

Evil.

'free trade' is big government. It is so big it requires international conglomeration of governments and corporations to surpress national sovereignty and individual rights.

Free traitors have created the biggest government ever, and under their corruption, the US government has gotten bigger and bigger, not smaller.

You cannot refute, you rely on cowardice, name calling and Alinsky techniques in your posts because of that.

You have, over and over again, shown yourself to be a despicable supporter of the demise of our nation.

Explain how free trade "surpress(es) national sovereignty and individual right(s).

How it's against the constitution.

Additionally U.S. employment in manufacturing has declined from 17 million to 11 million since 2000.

Finally, a fact. I was afraid you were unable to post one. Maybe you should compare how much we manufactured in 2000 and how much we manufacture now, with millions fewer workers? If you're able?

And you don't see a problem here? It's even worse than that because in that 11 million are included mining jobs and jobs in power plants(that's something else the government calls manufacturing).

http://www.manufacturingnews.com/news/09/1215/Chinamanufacturingjobs.html

Here's another fact in the U.S. , manufacturing jobs as a percentage of population are at 3.8%. That's extremely low. China has manufacturing workers in a number equivalent to 33% of the U.S. entire population. And you believe all these “stats” that the U.S. manufactures more than China?

It's even worse when you look at the long term decline of manufacturing jobs , they are declining at an alarming rate and even more so as a percentage of population .

Did you even look at my post?

Workers in manufacturing declined from 17 million to 11 million since the year 2000. Its even worse when you take manufacturing workers as percentage of population now down to 3.8%( and that includes miners, workers in power plants ). When it gets down to 1% you still will say the U.S. is the top manufacturing powerhouse when China has as much manufacturing workers as 33% of the U.S. entire population. You all don’t get it that China manipulates its currency so everything is orders of magnitude cheaper so they really manufacture 20 times what the U.S. does. Overall American jobs in the private sector haven’t increased at all in the last decade and that is because of trade with China.
http://www.manufacturingnews.com/news/09/1215/Chinamanufacturingjobs.html

I asked any of you to post how many smart phones are manufactured in the U.S.? It’s zero or close to it. Prove me wrong. Ditto for THOUSANDS of other electronic products that Americans use every day like ipads, cell phones, lapttops, PCS, etc. etc. and all their parts and their parts etc. Show me the “great” production the U.S. is producing in any of these consumer electronics industries as in the smart phone industry.

All of your “stats” are in inflated, overvalued dollars and include such things as power plant output in your “manufacturing stats. It’s all liberal/globalist propaganda.
