HAPPY TUESDAY TO AMY’S PLACE!

W. Eugene Smith - The Walk to Paradise Garden

You Are The New Day – The King’s Singers
(Click)

May You Approach Each New Day With The Innocence, The Sense Of Wonder And The Optimism Of These Two Children!

There is a story behind this picture:

Always known as a photographer who would take almost any chance if it meant getting the picture, Gene Smith’s good luck throughout the Pacific deserted him on May 23, 1945. While on the east coast of Okinawa photographing an essay titled "A Day in the Life of a Front Line Soldier," he was seriously wounded by a Japanese shell fragment. The missile hit him in the head cutting both cheeks, injuring his tongue and knocking out several teeth. Characteristically, he was taking pictures at the time and the fragment passed through his left hand before entering his cheek just below the eye and near the nose. His comment in the hospital later: "I forgot to duck but I got a wonderful shot of those who did... my policy of standing up when the others are down finally caught up with me."

Ernie Pyle, another great war correspondent, who was on Okinawa with Smith and was not so lucky, wrote of him, "Gene Smith is an idealist, trying to do great good with his work but it will either break him or kill him."

Smith’s war wounds cost him two painful years of hospitalization and plastic surgery. During these years he took no pictures and whether he would ever be able to return to photography was doubtful. Then one day, during his period of convalescence, Smith took a walk with his two children and even though it was still intensely painful for him to operate a camera, came back with one of the most famous photographs of all time: "A Walk to Paradise Garden." This memorable image was to serve as the final picture in the famous "Family of Man" Exhibition.

Lol, I don’t think there’s a wedding that doesn’t have the band play the Chicken Dance or the Hokey Pokey down this way. It’s fun for all and even the kids can join in!

Again thanks for all the good wishes and prayers, didn't sleep much, pain level to high, couldn't take any thing. Just 30 more mins and we have to leave.

I just know one of you will do something with this one.

You brought me back from extinction, only to kill the FREEDOM I represent.

Courageous Conversation

May 16, 2012

Is it possible that technological advances in communication have left us unable to confront people properly? After all, employers can now send layoff notices via e-mail. And people can criticize others on Facebook and Twitter instead of talking face to face. Perhaps it might be better to put all that aside and emulate how Paul communicated with Peter when they had a disagreement.

Paul had to confront Peter for compromising grace (Gal. 2:11-16). Peter had been fellowshiping with Gentiles, but when the Judaizers arrived (who believed that sinners are saved through Jesus plus keeping the law of Moses), Peter separated himself from the Gentiles. He ostracized them while professing to be one with them. Seeing this hypocrisy, Paul, in love and with passion, confronted Peter face to face for cowering to a legalistic system that was powerless to change lives. He vigorously reminded Peter that grace leads to freedom from sin’s slavery and to obedience to God.

Having courageous conversations with fellow Christians can be difficult, but they will promote purity and unity. We can carry out our responsibility to one another to speak the truth in love (Eph. 4:15) by walking in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Lord, give us courage to confront
Believers who have strayed;
And then with gentleness restore
By coming to their aid. —Sper
A well-chosen word can speak volumes.

The many electronic technologies of today isolate us from people. We are solitary in our mind and action. Amazing how we have learned to accept this and even prefer it.

In ORWELLS book ‘1984’ ... this isolation from other people is one of the major points to which the rulers and the people have arrived.

VERY TERRIBLE really. Hopefully people will reread ‘1984’ and ‘Brave New World’, by Huxley, again. Every generation needs to understand these books. So much of what they warn us about is true today. SCARY stuff. There are other books warning us of future events that are equally ‘right on’ too. MO

People have succumbed to rules and outrageous edicts by governments since history began. The LORD attempted to dissuade Israel from wanting a KING, warning of what a KING would do to them. But God let them have a KING.

Be careful what we wish for. Let us praise and glorify God and not fall for man’s deceit.

Warm Fuzzy *HUGS* To Amy's Place

Sometimes a hug speaks volumes
When someone's feeling low
And more then words are needed
To set a heart aglow

So next time you see someone
Who's looking rather blue
I'd recommend a kind word
An perhaps a hug or two!

Hello Dear Friends,

Sorry I've been away so long. I had the epidural last Thursday and by 5:00 that evening, the pain was back as usual and have had no relief. I had such hopes that I would get some relief and have been let down and sorta crawled into a hole. I have had a hard time pulling myself up. When one has constant horrible pain, it takes a tremendous toll on a person physically and psychologically! I don't know what the future plans are for me but I am in with a great bunch of Neurosurgeons who have a great desire to keep me from having to live my life this way and I'm thankful for that.

And I'm thankful for my friends here at Amy's Place for understanding. I am offering prayers for dear Gail today and wish her the best. And my best wishes and prayers for all my friends here who are suffering. I know in this big wide world that many people have problems bigger than mine. And I've said this before, "I complained because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet." I remind myself of this all the time.

Maybe a miracle will happen and I will feel like my old self again but I won't give up....EVER! They say everything happens for a reason and sometimes I wonder about that, if you know what I mean!

Amy, you have had a beautiful thread every day and I wish I could have participated but just couldn't! You are doing a wonderful job and I love everyone's beautiful and/or funny graphics each day!

This is the way my pain is.....if I sit all day or lay down all day I have no pain. Its just when I get up and start moving around, like doing breakfast or cleaning the dishes and loading the dishwasher. I do not want to live my life like that. One more thing, I only found out a few days before my epidural that my next door neighbor's new wife was having back problems and she had an appointment at 6:30 and mine was at 7:00. Also, her epidural didn't help her one bit, she told me. They told her since this was her second one that they weren't giving her anymore and the next thing for her would be surgery. And she told me she wasn't going to do that.

See you all when I can! Love to All!!!!

My internet connection is horrible today. It was so bad last night that I powered down and silently wished everyone a good night.

I’ve tried 3 times to post to you ....
First .. Thank you for sharing those beautiful children and the link to “You Are The New Day”.

Second ... I been trying to ask if the lovely lady that you posted for Mother’s Day was Mrs MacNessa. Thank you for introducing us to her.

I’m a day late, but hope your days have been grand!
