Several weeks ago I received a letter addressed to "Resident." Inside was a 28-page American Community Survey form in which I was supposed to reveal to the government every detail about my life. Today, "Resident" received it again along with a threatening letter requiring me to complete the survey.
I intend to chuck this one, too.
Has anyone else had this experience?
Then they started stopping by. One time there was a young woman walking around our backyard, looking in my detached office, looking in our sheds and just looking around. One of my boys told me so I grabbed a 12 gauge shotgun, opened the door, pointed the shotgun at her, she turned pale and started screaming "I'm with the census bureau."
I told her to get out of my backyard and not come back. She still tried to get some questions answered but I kept telling her to leave.
When I have talked with the census bureau on the phone, they always tell me I'm required to completely fill out the forms or risk fines. I just tell them to fine me.
I've also asked what part of the Constitution says they can ask for all that personal information. They can only quote the Census or Enumeration clause.
So far I haven't had to pay the fine.
Even though we were threatened with a fine (after researching it we found no one has ever actually been fined) we decided to ignore it.
They visited and phoned us repeatedly.
The consensus is that after a 3 month period they stop. And that was exactly the time period it took for them to stop bugging us.
That was very funny!
I do believe Walken and Bernard McGurk were separated at birth. Did you notice the notoriously lazy Walken was reading off the teleprompter? And he was still funny.
Yeah they came by daily for about 4 months. They weren’t smart enough to discover my phone #. Because I live outside of town, here in AK I have no mail delivery to my house, and they never sent a notice to my PO Box. So the routine was the same every day: I would drive home and see a car parked down the road. I would drive into my garage and by the time I was in the house the doorbell would ring twice. I would never answer, and they would leave a slip on my front door requesting me to call a phone # and threatening that what I was doing was against the law. I never answered the door, never called the phone #, never removed the notices (I had a bunch of them on my front door), and if they caught me outside I ignored their very existence. Eventually they went away. I am sure as a result I’m on some Gubermint List. But I don’t care.
Do what I did. Be creative and have fun. I reported myself as an unemployed black lesbian CEO making 250K/year. Any numeric answer was answered with “other”, and values like pi, e, i, and c were inserted...
ALSO... the Census Bureau is prohibited from sharing ANY personal information with any other Federal Agency. Kind of hard to press a fine or charges if they can’t even release your name or address....
I received one about the 2012 election from the GOP. Lots of multiple choice type questions. I wrote four words on it and sent it back ...
NO OBAMA!!!
NO MITT!!!
book mark....I too have recieved 2 surveys mentioned in this post...tossed both in the circular file....
“...an unemployed black lesbian CEO making 250K/year.”
Marry me?
Census person/people blew through, literally everybody was not home, and the Census Bureau took the "town" off their maps.
Apparently, they didn't bother with follow-ups.
Hmmm, maybe that's why they are so harassingly insistent nowadays.
My girlfriend in TOPS, a widow, received it a few years back and declined to answer, but eventually was forced to do so. It asked highly personal questions like how much money in her accounts, if she was already pregnant before marriage, etc. She had money, and since sending it in some years back, she gets 2 to 3 calls a week from Nigeria trying to scam her. Right or wrong, she firmly believes all the calls trying to scam her are because her financial information was on that survey.
Let them prove you got the letter.
I just received mine last week.
I started answering questions, and then became very uncomfortable.
I didn’t finish - and I’m not going to send one in.
This intrusion was developed during the Clinton administration. The attempt to gather information that can be used for future central planning is obvious. Why else would they need to know how far away my residence is from my employment? Or how I get to work?
If I get a young woman from the census bureau showing up, I'm going to draw upon my inner Laz:
"Julie sent you, didn't she?"Continue until she runs away..."No, I'm from the census bureau"
"That's what the last few women all said. They were really here because Julie told them how good I am at sex. Julie really liked it, and told all her friends, and now they can't leave me alone!! All day and all night, they can't leave me alone!"
"Sir, I really AM from the census bureau!"
"Doris said she was from the census bureau. I'm tired of her now. You can take her with you. She's in the basement".
I’m a confirmed Libertarian scofflaw. The first thing I do when I buy a mattress is tear off the tag.
One small step for Me...
Yes.
Had this happen to me and posted my experience: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2436331/posts
My mistake was to fill it out.
NEVER discuss personal information with anyone over the phone. They called wanting more info and I told them to come by my home. Read the thread I started to follow what happened.
Someone also suggested that if they show up at your home demand to know what law requires you answer this huge survey.
They must provide you the citations and then, when you get it from them, tell them to take a seat as this will take a while because you are going to look up the sources and review case law on the subject. You might also suggest to them that you will call when you are finished studying the laws and court cases and are ready to chat. ;-)
Yes. . .they also ask for very detailed information regarding your finances.
Not an Obama thing. Been around for decades.
