We can be compelled to flitter like butterflies to the moon.

Enforcement’s a different issue.

One of the primary reasons we have them is so they can’t take them away.........

There is nothing they cannot compel or prohibit you from doing

because there is nothing that you do that won’t have

“a substantial effect on the cost of healthcare”.

I don’t think it would apply....that IS what the 2nd Amendment is FOR!

On the flip side, we could also be compelled to buy them. I think this is a much more realistic hypothetical since you wouldn’t have a 2nd amendment violation to contend with before the court.

If the current health-care mandate argument is because it concerns “public health”, then I’d think we can be compelled to purchase guns using the argument for “public safety”.

This will be able to apply to anything. We have to drive McDonalds out of business in the interest of public health. We can’t have all these people eating that fattening food, coming up with health ailments and driving up the cost of healthcare.

This Healthcare law is about Power...this will give GOV’T almost ABSOLUTE POWER! What doesn’t apply to people’s health? Air,Food, everything will be able to be under the thumb of the Gov’t. Imagine the Obama’s decide that Obesity is a health epidemic....would it be too hard to believe that thru Grocery “Extra points” cards they could tell you what to buy in the store? Or How many Big Mac’s you could eat.....KILL OBAMACARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good point. I guess theoretically, it could come to that you can only drink, smoke, own a weapon, walk down the street without a helmet, etc. if you can afford to go without insurance (since it will be illegal to cover you if you engage in those activities) and pay the fine. Like driving, medical services will become a “privledge of the state”.

Even if the individual mandate gets struck down and if the AHCA law in part survives the Supreme Court the government will retain the latitude to regulate what it deems as potentially harmful anything that may lead to a medical expense. Under that scenario it is likely the gov will out law on a national scale any citizen possession of gun powder, thus viable bullets and shot shells would be prohibited. Obviously the obozo, the dems and the RINO’s won't divulge their sinister plan until after the obozo care becomes a fixed in place law. This congress, the obozo and the previous administration have already passed laws severely diminishing our constitutional rights and liberties as a nation and making it a crime to possess gun powder will be just the beginning of more restriction to come.

I'm more worried about the EPA going after lead bullets due to it 'harming the environment.'

Guns themselves won't be an issue unless we lose one or two justices on SCOTUS. Then we're in deep sh!t.

In the name of ‘health care’ they can force us to give up anything. Or force us to buy anything. Want some useless ‘alternative’ energy? If you do or not, you WILL buy it... The thugs who support them in the MSM will provide cover for fellow elites :

Anything additional will be ignored.

If that comes to be, I’ll not say a word.

After all, like many others here at FR, all my firearms were lost in a boating accident years ago.

Good point.

Meanwhile, if we stopped forcing hospitals to treat people who can’t pay, we wouldn’t need to fix our healthcare system.

It’s like forcing cab drivers to take passengers who cannot pay. The result would be higher and higher cab fares, until nobody could pay and Obama would have to make everyone have cab fare insurance.
