On the flip side, we could also be compelled to buy them. I think this is a much more realistic hypothetical since you wouldn’t have a 2nd amendment violation to contend with before the court.

If the current health-care mandate argument is because it concerns “public health”, then I’d think we can be compelled to purchase guns using the argument for “public safety”.

That’s what I’m thinkin’. Reinstatement of the Militia Act Of 1792 would have zero judicial problems.
