Ferrets actually make fine pets for people who can't make up their mind between a cat and dog. They are somewhat less trainable and affectionate than a dog, but moreso than a cat. When it comes to rodent control, they have no equal.

Absolutely! Or tell you - in English - when they have to "GO", so you can place them in the appropriate spot to do just that? Or to ask - in English - for a kiss, for their favorite treat, for a scratch, to be picked up, or to be cuddled? The downside to all this is, the larger birds can have the intelligence of about a 7-year old kid, but the emotional maturity of a 2-year old. So it's like living with a highly intelligent 2-year old (and yes, they throw 2-year olds' tantrums, too).
My dog wouldn’t shut up one night when my husband had left to fly across country for a new job. I stayed behind to sell the house which was located on a lonely mountaintop in Washington State in the woods. She finally got quiet, and I found the next morning that our garage had been burgled by thieves.

I’m poly-petual. If its an animal pet, I love it.
These are just generalizations of both cats and dogs, and the people who prefer one over the other. There are of course always exceptions. Even to the point people have pets beyond the 2 choices of cats and dogs.

My 4 lb., seven months old female Yorkie, name is Prissy, is a house dog and smells sweet all the time and watches through the two glass doors to the outside and if anything moves, THEN she barks and runs to get me.
She also barks when we play, but that’s it. She is calm but playful. She and I live alone and we love each other. She always wears a pink bow on the top of her head to hold her hair back out of her eyes.
A Yorkie’s hair is more like human hair so it doesn’t smell like regular dog hair. She also goes to the beauty shop once a month to keep tangles out of her long hair and have a nice doggy bath.

Dad has a Blue Healer and a German Shepherd.
The Shepherd is absolutely beautiful. Could have a bit of red setter in him. A real rust red cast to his fur. Very stunning.
And he’s super smart . . . and BIG.
Both of them insist on jousting with skunks. Not very smart.

No, the simple fact is, barking dogs ARE NOT always barking for a reason. And a certain percentage of dog owners are inconsiderate jerks who don’t give a hoot if their mutts drive everyone around them crazy.

Oh oh... I can sure see my older one doing that. The younger one would make friends or...run away in fear.

I don't know why people think cats don't communicate. This one is a talker....both in voice and body language. If he wants to eat..he has a very low level meow, actually under his breath... and goes sits by his dishes, if he wants to play he does like wise and sits by his toys...if he wants to be left alone he chills out in the bedroom away from activity. Otherwise he has his own recliner.
If he wants to cuddle he sits on the cuddle blanket waiting for me to put in a movie...additionally he likes to watch computer videos...and lets me know he wants to picked up for that.
He also greats me when I get home. I thought maybe just for food until I deprived him of that and just sat petting him...he had a choice and stayed there.
It's been over a month since here and taken time to adjust...but he sure does know how to communicate... and play time he will play catch with his toys....brings them to me after to toss again. Also plays hide and seek...hilarious!
So I disagree...maybe he just thinks he's a dog!

Very true. Cats seems to be on a "scale" from 1-10....1 being a cat, 10 being "like a dog".
It all depends on the cat. Me, I've had 3 freakos (lost my eldest last December).
I would range all three of them from a 1-2.
I didn't pick them. My first 2 were "given" to me (me or the shelter, as kittens) and my 3rd was a dumped house cat who I took in 3 winters ago from my backyard.
When I want some kittie love, I go upstairs to my landlords who has 2 cats that land on the 9-10 scale.
Well, I don't know. I love some dogs, not others, hate all cats, but am introverted, unsociable, schizoid, and have a terrible disposition. Love my birds, though, and have one of the longest living Cockatiels around.
My daughter had a couple of ducks that all the cats were terrified of...the horses didn’t much care for the ducks, but when one of the horses had to go to U of M for a major problem, the remaining horse let the ducks in the arena...She was lonesome and cozy up to them...it was funny, she needed some friends and would follow them around when they came into her area.....
