Ask anyone on the street whether they're a cat or a dog person, and chances are, they've got a quick answer. Like the choice between Coke or Pepsi, or chocolate or vanilla, how you respond to cats versus dogs could say a lot about you.
"Dog people are a little more outgoing," a dog owner at the Westminster Dog Show told ABC News. "Cat people are a little more aloof, because that's just how cats are."
Karen Hessel, the proud "mama" to 3-year-old Ripley, a golden retriever, said, "They say that cats are very intelligent but I haven't seen that yet in a cat, but I know my dog is brilliant."
Over at the Black Diamond Cat Show in Kimberton, Pa., cat owners were telling a different story, saying intelligence is the key difference between dog and cat owners. Cat people, they say, are simply smarter.

A major study at the University of Texas shows that there really is a difference between "dog people" and "cat people."
Those who define themselves as "dog people" are more extroverted, more agreeable and more conscientious than self-described "cat people." Those who love felines, though, were found to be less traditional, more creative and more neurotic.

Dogs are like 5 yr olds.. They love abundantly, they are effusive, exuberant, joyful and loyal. They want nothing more than to hang out with you, pile up on you and eat what you are eating.
Cats are like teenagers, pretty clever, definitely sneaky, charming when they want to be, affectionate when they want to be, rarely obedient, indolent with bursts of frantic activity.
Like you, I have both.
What am I? I love both cats and dogs. Lean more toward dogs, but definitely love cats.
Of course, it depends on the type of dog - they’re too different.

Perfect. You have it absolutely perfect. You have the reverse of the stereotyped sex for the animals, and you have species that act like the other species.
My long-gone beloved dog & cat were like that - female German Shepherd that had many kitty traits and male cat with many doggie traits.
Makes the perfect pet.

Ask me about my neighbors (10 FEET FROM OUR HOUSE & DECK) and their little Papillons. I used to respect Paps. Now I grit my teeth.

Our cats wouldn’t set foot outside the house the other evening, something very unusual. The next day a neighbor called and warned us to watch out, there was a montain lion outside his house the night before!

Sounds like the cat I just took in a few weeks ago. The vet said he’d been out there on his own for awhile, his paws were calloused and has scars to prove he’s been in a few fights along the way. He has NO teeth! Much to the vets surprise and isn’t sure how he lost them all. Obvious whoever had him didn’t see to him well at all.
However, on vet trip learned he is microchipped but not registured. Phone calls showed phone disconnected. Maybe the guy died or moved, at this point it doesn’t matter to me I’m keeping him. Though I would have to give him up, I understand, if the owner does contact me. Someone said to have the microchip transferred to my name so I will see about the legalities of that on next vet trip.
Interesting thing is.. for being an outside cat for so long he wants nothing to do with going back out there and makes that abundantly clear.
As my landlord said...”That cat has won the lottery now”. He has a great bed, his own recliner, toys and lotsof food and catnip too. But most of all he gets lots of attention!
He’s a good cat and not demanding at all. A keeper for sure!
Yes, I think your right about that. Only down side is I have to clean his litter pan after each use. He’s at 11 lbs. and eats and drinks quite a bit. What an awful job that is! I use One-Step clumping but still just cleaning that thing out is a distasteful chore! I can’t imagine those with more than one cat!!!!!

I believe that. I used to live in the deep woods in Washington State. We had about 12 acres that backed up to a 1000 acre state forest preserve. My woods had a network of trails that laced through the woods behind my house. My dogs and my cats used to walk with me on the trails while I picked up fallen branches and laid them to the sides of the trail to mark the way. The trees were mammouth — 2nd growth timber. The land had been cut in 1900 and had not been touched since.
I was always hoping to find a natural spring that I could encourage to become a small pond. There was a large swampy spot where unusual foliage grew, unlike anything else on the property. I crossed a fallen tree to go explore that spot to see how much water was there and found large foot pints in the mud. My husband said they probably just from a wandering dog, but I thought they were much larger.
The interesting phenomna is that none of my animals would accompany me to that spot. The cats would scramble up a tree and yowl, and the dogs would stay on the trail and bark. I’d cajole them and try to get them to come with me, but they wouldn’t budge.
We sold the house and land to the State Forest Service and moved to Wisconsin. When we went back a few years later to see what they had done with the place, there were maps of my trails in a hand out box and signs posted in the parking lot saying:
“Beware of Panthers.”
Chills ran up and down my spine.

We have just had a strange thing happen on our ranch. Someone dumped 2 young dogs there. They would not even come near us but we put out food and water bowls for them. After about 2 months one of the dogs disappeared. The remaining dog has taken up with a bull out in the pasture and stays very close to him all the time. The dog still comes up to eat when we are not there and goes back to the bull.
