Then he will have received the most votes. The ugly, unvarnished truth is that Freerepublic (unfortunately) is not representative of the country. Not even close.

This entire election has been peppered with folks — freepers included — drawing lines in the sand. If either Gingrich or Santorum dropped out, a whole bunch of their supporters would vociferously refuse to support whoever remained, purely out of spite.

For a bunch of folks, their decision *may* have started out as a reasoned choice based upon on principle, character, issue positions, whatever. But it has since turned purely emotional, they have dug in their heels and there is no way in hell they are going to be turned back around.

This has been one of the most devisive elections I’ve witnessed. I blame the MSM for their seemingly concerted effort to maximize the drama, the GOP for trying to cram a pre-selected “next-in-line” candidate down our throats and whoever nominated this poor assortment of candidates. If this is the best we have to offer, how can we ever expect to reverse the decades of damage the progressives have inflicted on this country.

You CANNOT and you WILL NOT control Romney. The GOP is a monarchist party and he seeks to be monarch, backed by the usual gang of corrupt Wall Street thieves and money mad greedy pigs. The only potential stumbling block for them is elections. Our (i.e., conservatives') only weapon is to cast or withhold our vote from useless liberal trash in GOP drag like Romney. Romney's zombies have behaved worse than gangsters throughout this process. If they are awarded the presidency for their despicable behavior, it will be without my vote or any vote I can influence.

I have voted GOP in each and every POTUS election beginning with Nixon in 1968. I held my nose and voted for such absolute Establishment trash and enemies of the movement, the party and the nation as Feckless Ford in 1976, Bush the Elder twice, Robert (Tax Collector for the Welfare State) Dole and senile political pacifist and sell-out artist John McCain.

I have always urged wavering conservatives NOT to withhold their votes from such trash because the boogie man will get them if the Demonrat is elected. No more! This year's primary tactics by the usual gang of bailout recipients has retired the prize. I will NEVER again vote for this sort of candidate even if they LOOK clean in the future. Romney is not clean and you aren't controlling him and neither am I.

If Romney is kept out of the White House, we can still take over the GOP and reasonably use it to translate conservative ideals into reality. RULE OR RUIN! If he is elected, then the GOP will cease to exist in reasonably short order as a vehicle for conservatism and it then must be destroyed as were its predecessors, the Hamiltonian Federalists and the Henry Clay Whigs and for roughly the same reason of massive financial corruption at the expense of the public. I am too far along in age to relish creating another party. ANYONE who tolerates Romney as a candidate has only himself or herself to blame for four more years of Obozo and all that that result implies.

I am not sitting out the general election. I will NOT vote for Obozo and I will NOT vote for Romney. I may vote third party or not at all for POTUS since there will be no meaningful election if it comes down to Obozo and Romney. Gargling sulfuric acid and gargling hydrochloric acid have remarkably similar results and I will choose neither. I shall vote for my very fine Congressman. I may vote for the quislings who represent me in the Illinois State Senate and Assembly. I may vote for County officials and judges and the like if they deserve votes.

I do NOT owe the GOP my vote for any office and if the GOP insists on nominating that lying privileged POS Mitt Romney, the GOP will NOT get that vote for POTUS. I do owe it to my country to do what I can to see to it that there is a viable party in opposition to such pathetic wastes of oxygen as Obamney AND Rombama. If Mittens is elected, his crimes will be on you. If Obama is elected his crimes will be on each and every Romney quisling who nominated the sorry SOB and guaranteed Obozo's next four years. In either event, I will congenially witness the farce of the suffering of those who backed or even tolerated Romney regardless of the actual election outcome.

You apparently have childlike faith that Romney cares about ANYTHING that conservatives care about: babies, marriages, guns, military, manly foreign policy, taxes on ordinary folks, SCOTUS justices devoted to actual conservatism and not just unbridled greed, restoring the ideological base of the GOP, allowing for any policies other than those that cuddle and coddle the trust fund babies and polo players and Junior Leaguers who are all that Romney and his ilk know.

In my youth, I left any affiliation with the Democrat Party of my ancestors on all sides and became a Republican because I was a conservative. We successfully fought the likes of Nelson Rockefeller, George Romney, John Lindsay, Lowell P. Weicker, Jr., Charles Goodell, William Scranton and too many other corrupt liberal zillionaires to mention. We beat them all and not by saying that any should take "their turn" as the POTUS nominee. If any of them had been nominated, we would have voted for a George Wallace or a Hubert Humphrey early and often.

Years have passed but truth remains truth. Mitt Romney is their political descendant and unfit for public office. He makes Nelson Rockefeller look like a conservative by comparison. That is the equivalent in politics of saying that Lucifer might be mistaken for God.

He can enjoy as much wealth as he can manipulate his way into and pay as low taxes as he can buy from corrupt politicians so long as he leaves the party and the nation alone. Romney has no intention of leaving either alone. He is hell bent on diluting and destroying both and leaving Americans without a political vehicle to utilize for the re-establishment of sanity in this country.

If Romney is nominated that merely means that Republicans feel a need to be punished for another four years by Obozo. Bush tax cuts for the big shots: gone. Draconian tax increases. $10 a gallon gasoline. Green everything. Gay everything. Mountains of additional slaughtered babies. Guns grabbed. Bad federal judges. Four more years of a fantasy that either Weepy Boehner or Mitch McConnell are "Republican leaders" instead of collection agents for lobbyists' money especially if they maintain a House Majority and gain a Senate Majority. What both actually specialize in is doing the horizontal mambo with K Street and its corruption. They have spent the last two years rolling over for Obozo on debt limit increase after debt limit increase and castrating the Tea Party freshmen, socializing them to just understand (or else) how things actually work here in the nation's capitol. Lobbyists money is the mothers' mil of their politics and funds their "friends." "Hey, freshman, don't you want to be our 'friend' and vote as we tell you to vote????'"
