Here is the “live thread” to Newts speech. I was trying to get in as much as I could.

He had some winners, but I am NOT as quick as he is!

Well, maybe....but he was my Congressman for many years. And, the image I see, the words I hear, and the direction I see him going now don’t lend a whole lot of confidence in his success.

He has those positives - quick thinking, excellent logic and command of language - on occasion. He also has more than just one or two super eff-ups in my opinion which he does a very poor job of explaining his rationale (e.g., Sittting with Nancy on the couch, or his forays at addressing the immigration problem).

Right now, all I see/hear on media is what can be construed as whining or complaining about ‘attack ads’. As far as his recent Georgia forays with the public and his guns and ‘bear arms’ joke, I question whether he’s even held a gun, frankly.

You regard Onyx as "pretty mean"????? Wow. You have extraordinarily poor judgment.

Your tagline says you think Santorum and Huckabee would be an ideal ticket, which indicates you're perfectly comfortable with "conservative" being defined big government used to enforce "Christian" morality. Smoking is frowned upon by many Christians, and if you recall, Huckabee said he would have been fine with a national ban on smoking. That, my FRiend, is the antithesis of limited government and liberty.

Christian morality and values, along with Christian charities, will THRIVE BEST in a limited government environment. Social conservatives must get off their high, self-righteous horses and humble themselves to the idea that other than their own individual charity and behavior, they have zero place overseeing, let alone using GOVERNMENT to oversee, "proper" Christian behavior.

If government was limited, we'd have no Roe v. Wade and abortion would probably be illegal in most, if not all states. If government was limited, Christian charities would be taking care of the poor and teaching them a work ethic, instead of government dole creating entitlement-arrogant slaves. If government was limited, free people would be able to peacefully, civilly discriminate against OPEN homosexuality in their workplaces, businesses, lives, communities, schools, military, and anywhere else they wanted to reject it.

Being against abortion and open homosexuality doesn't make you a conservative -- it makes you against abortion and the gay agenda. Being against those two things AND RECOGNIZING that limited govenrment the way our Founders intended is the best way to ensure a moral society, is being a conservative.

These true conservatives RESPECT the rights of others to make mistakes and do wrong to learn the path of righteousness. We each have our own path to God, and busy-bodies often serve as obstacles in that path. Busy-bodies as private entities are one thing; busy-bodies elected to political power, no matter WHICH political party they belong to, are LETHAL TO FREEDOM. Please wake up to this truth.

Social conservatives are every bit as emotion-driven as liberals, and the results are just as damaging.

“newt is a tough fighter. The problem is, what is he fighting for? More status quo? Newt is against even modest cuts proposed by Paul Ryan”

His “attack” on Rep. Paul Ryan’s plan was not an attack on Rep. Ryan or his plan. He answered a question later in the interview after he had discussed Rep. Ryan’s plan that was inturppted by the host and then by Newt’s detractors as an attack on rep. Paul and his plan. This was contrived and distorted.

I haven’t seen any where near the vitriol and visciousness spewed at Rick that I’ve seen thrown at Newt. I do believe that Paul and Romney are both slimey and unprincipled and should be fair game on a personal level as well as their records.

Social Conservatives dominate the Republican party, my friend.

That’s WHY Willard the Lib is toast. Period.

But why slam either of our final two conservatives?

Not that you have. But Onyx calling Santorum names such as “backstabber” is out of line.

Santorum is about to take Willard DOWN in Michigan for us conservatives and freedom lovers...and a deadly blow at that for the Masachusetts Lib.

Let Rick do our job.

One of the best Newt pics ever! he is brave, fearless in dealing with the leftwingers. Not ONE candidate running for president has done as much for America as Newt. His record as Speaker is historical.

Saving the photo:)

I don’t believe that pointing out that a candidate is not a fiscal Conservative and has a long record of supporting big government and Rinos is not a personal attack or a “SLAM” and should be part of this process, oh I forgot to mention earmarks. If Santorum gets the nomination I will support him, but I don’t believe we will see the differences made that needs to be made for our country to continue, if he is able to get elected.

“Rick has the non Romney vote, along with the Rush bump. He hasn’t even been vetted and you expect people to play the game to get out the vote for this man. You guys are acting like the establishment who we are trying to defeat”

EVERY TIME I’m posting something factually true about Santorum’s past deeds, Rickystanians are jumping at me with complaints that I just want to “smear” him.

If Santorum and his supporters cannot assume his OWN deeds, why would Obama?

Your guess that Palin thinks Santorum is a close second may not be accurate. Rick made some nasty remarks about Sarah when it was thought she still might enter the race.

When asked about those comments, Sarah said, “ I don’t worry much about comments from knuckle dragging neaderthals.”

She has also made comments about Rick’s lack of fiscal conservatism.

Of those in the race now, Newt is Sarah’s guy.

On her facebook page, people say to her, if you don't back Rick or Mitt, I will hate you. Newt supporters seem to be more respectful there while asking for her to help him ...

As a weathered FR veteran reader of Romney supporters' tone, for lack of better word, I figure it's to be expected from them. They must easily hold the record for being of the mindset that immediately reverts to "You hate ..." (and all appropriate variations thereof) such-and-such or whatever, Mormonism or Romney or Romney supporters. They could conceive no other possibility than "hate" as the driving force of the opposition.

I figure about half of Santorum supporters are closet-Romney supporters, which goes a long way to explaining any similar tone in Santorum backers' posts.

Do Romney's supporters "hate"? I don't know. I do know that desperation sounds a lot different, and will stoop a lot lower, than passion.

I'm a Newt supporter eyes wide open to his many flaws, but willing to roll the dice on him being the best bet of anybody in the race to beat Obama and then cut taxes and government drastically to start getting things moving toward liberty and prosperity. Moralizing is NOT what will set our nation right; CUTTING ITS GOVERNMENT WILL.

Godspeed Newt.

You're stating flatly tht Palin voted for Huckabee?

I just spent about 10 minutes searcing "Palin voted for Huckabee." Are you talking out your ass or do you have a source, a link, a place to show how you know this? Huckabee dropped out on March 4.

You sound like the Romney supporter here eight years ago, I've forgotten which one now, who regularly stated as "fact" that Rush Limbaugh voted for Romney, and even went so far as to claim Rush said so on one of his shows.

Romney supporters were brazen in their willingness to LIE and deliberately misrepresent in order to argue folks to their side.

What a coincidence.
