Kidnapping Survivor Elizabeth Smart Gets Married In Hawaii
SALT LAKE CITY -- Elizabeth Smart, who was kidnapped at age 14 from her Salt Lake City home and held for what she described as "nine months of hell," married her fiance in Hawaii on Saturday, surrounded by only immediate family. Smart, 24, and Matthew Gilmour became engaged in January, initially announcing a summer wedding.
According to the Smart family spokesperson, NBC station KSL of Salt Lake City reported, those plans changed a week ago in order to avoid attention to the unscheduled ceremony in the Laie Hawaii Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Oahu.
The couple and family were celebrating with a private reception and luau, after which Smart and Gilmour were leaving for an extended honeymoon, KSL said.
"Elizabeth is grateful to be celebrating her special day with those closest to her without distraction," family spokesman Chris Thomas said. "Her wedding further demonstrates it is possible to rise above challenging circumstance to lead a happy and productive life."

Wish her much happiness.
They look good together. I hope her life is able to go forward normally.
What a brave, strong woman. I wish them all the best.
Oh, I see. It's a press release.
Good for her, and him!
Her parents had a habit of hiring homeless people and letting them near their children as well. Most would think that’s not a good idea and in fact it didn’t turn out so well in one case. The intentions were good, but it ultimately led to her “9 months of hell”.
Tacky comment.
More likely to beat the paparazzi.
You should ask the Mod to remove your comment.
It says they wanted to avoid what it was becoming, a massively publicized thing.
So they gave the official date and location the slip to make it more private.
I’m giving the rest of the story as posted.
I like to do things that way.
Known for it, in fact.
you were there when they did it?
I wish them the best, she showed a lot of moxie and courage.
We shall see, won’t we?
I hope she has a lifetime of happiness. She’s a very beautiful and brave young lady.
little children get kidnapped and murdered in horrendous ways...some our kept away for many years...most are sexually assaulted repeatedly....
but why do some stories just seem to go on and on and on....
good luck to these young people but please, go and live your lives quietly....we don't need to know every single thing that you do....enough already, please..
God bless her and help her enjoy the rest of life with her new hubby. Pray the same for Jaycee; sad for the families of the speed freak killers though...
Good luck to ‘em. And maybe the kid’ll get a new tie ;-)
God bless the both of them for a happy future together..
“I wish her story would just go away....hers and that bimbo who was accused of murder in Italy.........
but why do some stories just seem to go on and on and on....
good luck to these young people but please, go and live your lives quietly....we don’t need to know every single thing that you do....enough already, please..”

I’m sure that both Smart and Know would absolutely love for their stories to go away. But that’s not going to happen.
Why do these stories “seem to go on and on and on...”? Dude/Dudette, you clicked on the link didn’t you? That interest evidenced by all the readers of these “stories” is why “journalists” keep reporting on them. If you truly wish for the stories to go away FOR YOU, just don’t click on links leading to such stories.
