The Remedy For Fear

February 20, 2012

In his first inaugural speech in 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt, the newly elected president of the US, addressed a nation that was still reeling from the Great Depression. Hoping to ignite a more optimistic outlook regarding that economic crisis, he declared, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself!”

Fear often shows up in our lives when we are at risk of losing something—our wealth, health, reputation, position, safety, family, friends. It reveals our innate desire to protect the things in life that are important to us, rather than fully entrusting them to God’s care and control. When fear takes over, it cripples us emotionally and saps us spiritually. We’re afraid to tell others about Christ, to extend our lives and resources for the benefit of others, or to venture into new territory. A fearful spirit is more vulnerable to the enemy, who tempts us to compromise biblical convictions and to take matters into our own hands.

The remedy for fear, of course, is trust in our Creator. Only when we trust the reality of God’s presence, power, protection, and provision for our lives can we share the joy of the psalmist, who said, “I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears” (Ps. 34:4).

Day by day and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
I’ve no cause for worry or for fear. —Berg

Trust in the Lord is the cure for a fearful spirit.

Read: Psalm 34:1-10

I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. —Psalm 34:4
Bible in a year:
Deuteronomy 13-16

The Word of God is speaking to us, individually every time we read his word or hear a bible based sermon. We are not to let it fall on closed or deaf ears, but to say to our self ‘what will God have me do with these his words today’? LIVE them, Pass then on to others, memorize them and store them after contemplating them for a time. Every ready to recall them again.

Easy to say ... hard to do. We get lazy and careless or I do. Forgive me LORD, YOUR WORDS are precious, and meant for the reader/believer, thank thee, Father, thou are so good. In Jesus name, amen. *********************************************************** King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)

"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

Thank you, Mayor, for todays daily bread. Fear and anxiety come to me because it is difficult to not judge our self when we know we are lax being in doing God's work assigned to us in this world. Too often I do not make time to be with God and focused simply on his word. I do believe we each have a part to play for God. He tells us, teaches us from his Word, and we are wasting time watching some vapid TV program or worse ... one of the 'sit coms' today filled with sexual innuendo and trashy behavior. We have come to rely on entertainment which occupies our minds mostly with trivia or worse false teaching. Forgive me LORD,. Let us repent of our misspent time with worldly, fleshly pursuits. Pride, envy, greed, selfishness, and let us turn to thee LORD in sincere repentance, shine thy light on us and through us, in Jesus name, amen.

Thank you Rus, for this Daily Bread today. The above scripture was for me today. I have been very worried about the pain I've endured for about 2 months. The pain pills I take for my hip didn't touch the pain in my back. I am having tests done now to locate the problem and I have learned some of it today, which will be included in my next post to my friends here, including you.

Some of you know about the terrible pain I’ve had in my back in between my shoulder blades. I’ve endured this awful pain for about 2 months. The pain pills that I take for my hip (sciatic nerve thing) did not ease the pain in my back even a speck. On Thursday I decided I couldn’t take it anymore and called my doctor. They set me up for the next morning at 11:00. The doctor felt up and down the spine area and of course didn’t know what it could be but he sort of guessed that one disc had fallen onto another disc. This was just a guess he told me.

He sent me that day for x-rays. I have been so anxious over the weekend and Radiology called this morning and said my doctor wanted me to have a bone scan tomorrow. They called back in about 30 minutes and changed the appt. until next Monday but couldn’t answer any questions that I had.

The doctor’s office just now called and told me it looked like a compression fracture in my back. I was nervous and didn’t ask any questions and decided to call back and ask what in the world that meant. The assistant told me it is where one disc had fallen onto the next disc. They are not positive but that is what the doctor had just guessed at on Friday. The assistant did tell me it was one of the most painful things you could have and probably was why the pain pills didn’t kill the pain.

You guys will never know how bad I have hurt. Any movement makes it hurt. When I sit on the couch very still it doesn’t hurt and when I sleep during the night it doesn’t hurt but the minute my feet hit the floor and I start moving around, the pain starts.

I have stayed away from the computer a lot because of the pain. Just thought I would tell you why you haven’t seen me much. My doctor said on Friday if that was the problem that it might can be fixed with a needle of some kind. He didn’t explain it further and I think he was trying to tell me that I may not have to have surgery. Of course, that will depend on the rest of the tests I will have done.

See you all when I can! Thanks for listening.

Hi Jaycee! I'm sorry to hear that you are in such intense pain. It sounds like your doctor may be suggesting an epidural cortisone injection. I have had some relief with that course of action. The last one I had is wearing off and I'm scheduled to go in for another one this Thursday.

Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this ordeal. I hope you find relief from your pain soon.

GOOD MILITARY MONDAY TO AMY’S PLACE!

The Soldier’s Code

1) I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.

2) I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender my men while they still have the means to resist.

3) If I am captured, I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.

4) If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me, and will back them up in every way.

5) When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am bound to give only name, rank, service number, and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies, or harmful to their cause.

6) I will never forget that I am an American fighting man, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.

We’ll all be praying for you, jaycee. I think a lot of us can relate to spine pain no matter it’s location.

We’ll be praying for your test results and the follow-up treatment that you will get complete relief from the pain. Personally, I’ve undergone four lumbar surgeries over the last 20+ years. Hope the epidural will bring relief for you if that’s the route the take.

Wow Jaycee, I’m so sorry to hear this news. There is nothing like back pain, well except eye pain. But looks like good news on horizon, getting a proper diagnosis is the first step, once you know what causes the pain it can be focused on and hopefully soon for you you will get some relief. Prayers for you my FRiend!

Jaycee, I can, I have C3-7 that are bone on bone, The 3 T’s that are in the bra area...the first one burns constantly, the middle I popped in my 30’s pushing a school door open, and it sends shafts of pain to my right rib cage, hasn’t changed in 33 years, the one below burns now too.

Then you have the L 3-5 that are bulged and pressing on nerves, and I tore the right rotator cuff year ago last Oct, to small to fix, very painful none the less. And the tear keeps getting bigger. Trying to do the PT popped the L-2 and that sent severe pain down my spine.

So I know the pain you are in all to well. Even 10 mgs of lore tabs don’t bring it down to half...Best medicine I found for the pain was a stiff shot of Scotch and Water, get’s you 4 hrs of sleep at least. I’m not much of a drinker, and 1 is all I can do or I get drunk.

Don’t ask about the TORTURE I went through with the 3 day inner ear perfusion last month. VERSED is a NASTY NON WORKING DRUG that is supposed to erase your memory. BULL S.

Am having a prolapsed bladder repaired on the 28th and then start with the Neurosurgeon for the Lumbar after that heals.

Thanks so much, Conor. Its been bad for sure and when pain pills don’t help, you don’t know what to do but try to find help. My doctor did tell me to take a higher miligram which he called into my pharmacy. I am using up what I have on hand now with 1 and a half pills.

I don’t think they are speaking of the epidurals for this. I did have epidurals once a month for 3 months year before last for my hip and I hate to report, they didn’t help the hip. I know they do help a lot of people with other things. Before the epidurals I went to physical therapy for about 6 weeks for my hip problem and when that didn’t help, I tried the epidurals. I wound up on pain pills which I don’t like to take but we must do whatever makes our lives a little better.

I believe there is some type of substance they can inject to make sort of a cushion between the discs. When I find out more about this I will let everyone know. Its all Greek to me but I will learn as I go.

All prayers I am grateful for indeed!

Thank you, Dave. All prayers will be appreciated. One good thing about Amy’s Place is that we all gather around to pray for each other whatever the needs are. We have a great bunch here and I’m glad to have a place like this to share things with kind folks.

I know you have had a lot of back problems as I remember. I’ve always wondered about your leg giving away with you and you would fall. By the way, how did that get, Dave? That was so dangerous.

I told Conor just now that I don’t think they are speaking of epidurals. I believe its a substance of some kind that they can inject to cushion those discs. I’m not positive but I will find out down the road I guess. My daughter in law said she saw something similar on that Dr. Oz show (I believe its Dr. Oz,) and she said now she wished she could remember more about it. She did say that this thing I have was what caused trouble for many people’s back pain.

Thanks again and we’re praying for you in your upcoming surgery!

Thank you so much, Rus. I had the eye problem before the back pain so I’m a walking encyclopedia on those problems...LOL! But I have a lot to learn about this back thing.

Appreciate all prayers from my Amy’s Place friends. What a great place we have here to share our problems with and know we can pray for one another!

When I find out what this thing is that they can inject, I will share with everyone. They have come a long way these days to help people with extreme pain.

Thanks again, Mr. Mayor, and you know how much I appreciate ODB every day. Today’s message fit me perfectly as I have been fearful.

Thank you, Luvie! I decided to share with all our friends so we can have more prayers. Can't have too many prayers, can we? I'm just not using the computer so much....as a matter of fact I'm not doing much housework either as I just can't. Sitting still or lying down gives me peace and I feel no pain. I don't wanna spend my life doing that though. I am looking for a housekeeper to do some vacuuming and cleaning the bathrooms. As of now, I can't do those things and it does bother me. I love my home and like to have it looking nice. You know how we women are!

I called one of my friends today to see if she knew anyone. She needs some help too and she got this girl and she worked cheap but she only had her once and the girl called on a Sunday and asked if she could do her work that day because she was in Bristol to do another lady's house. My friend told her no, she didn't want her work done on Sunday. She later called her back and told her (nicely) that she was going to find someone else. It seems people you hire want to make up their own rules as they go.
