NASA's Kepler Announces 11 Planetary Systems Hosting 26 Planets
NASA ^ | 1/26/12 | NASA

Posted on 01/27/2012 12:40:06 PM PST by illiac

NASA's Kepler mission has discovered 11 new planetary systems hosting 26 confirmed planets. These discoveries nearly double the number of verified Kepler planets and triple the number of stars known to have more than one planet that transits, or passes in front of, its host star. Such systems will help astronomers better understand how planets form.

The planets orbit close to their host stars and range in size from 1.5 times the radius of Earth to larger than Jupiter. Fifteen of them are between Earth and Neptune in size, and further observations will be required to determine which are rocky like Earth and which have thick gaseous atmospheres like Neptune. The planets orbit their host star once every six to 143 days. All are closer to their host star than Venus is to our sun.

Here is what we need to do:

1. Invent a Faster than Light travel method.
2. Colonize other planets.
3. Leave the libs to fry on earth when the sun expands in 3 billion years.

That faster than light stuff is a ways off if possible at all. However there is a lot of technology out there that is a whole lot faster than what we’re using. VASIMIR looks good with a possible 12% of light speed velocity but it has to be larger than we can launch from the surface.

If they’re all as close to their sun as Venus is to our sun, seeing a planetary collision would be very cool.

Or perhaps we can ship them off like the Golgafrinchams did.

Results of Faster Than Light flashlight demonstration:

Comment #1: “Gee, your new flashlight certainly illuminates the street very well.”

Comment #2: “Turn on your new flashinght, please.”

Kepler paper model kit you can download, print, cut out, and put together.

Since Kepler was launched after Obama took office, he can take personal credit for all of these discoveries, and the media can cite them as further proof of his awesomeness.

Sort of like with the killing of OBL.

“1. Invent a Faster than Light travel method.”

God already has a FASTER-THAN-LIGHT travel mode. While Earthbound and mortal individuals are limited to the speed of light; in the coming Kingdom, we will travel at the speed of thought.

The limit of “science” in determining the outer reaches of the Universe as we’ve been able to detertmine it, is approx. 12 Billion Light Years, as of the mid-1980s. I’ve not heard an update since then. Theoretically, the planet HEAVEN must be out somewhere in those regions.

The only other possibility is if Heaven is actually in ANOTHER DIMENSION. If it is, that creates other problems, because when Christ went up on Ascension Day, he arose up into the air and into the clouds; and the angels who appeared at that moment told the assembled believers that when Christ comes back, He will come down through the atmosphere just like they’d just seen Him GO to Heaven; ergo, Heaven must be a planet.

And yet, on the first Easter Morning, after rising from the tomb and greeting Mary Magdalene in the garden near the burial tomb, Christ went to Heaven and placed His shed blood in the Holy of Holies; and then was back in Jerusalem later that day, where he walked the Emmaus Road with Mr. & Mrs. Cleopas and revealed Himself to them. When they recognized that it was The Lord, and after he had vanished from their midst, they got so excited that they hurried all the way back to Jerusalem to tell their friends what they’d experienced.

And a while later the same evening, after the Clepoases had gotten to Jerusalem and were telling their story, Christ appeared in their midst, revealing Himself to the 11 Apostles, with Mr. & Mrs. Cleopas there, too.

Luke 24:13 thru 36.

No; The speed of light is much too slow. In Eternity, the Redeemed will travel the Universe at the Speed of Thought! IMHO.

Thanks momtothree. This may be a duplicate topic in some way, but I'm going to ping it and let the meteorites fall where they may.

While still theoretical, tachyons are interesting in the sense that they are believed to have a low end limit of light speed. They’re also believed to move faster the less energy there is available.
