(CNN) -- "I'm just gonna put a little more butter in there, y'all," she said as she plopped a large chunk into the skillet. "Oh my," she added, "I've gone and put a whole stick in by now."
I was watching Paula Deen on the Food Network, whipping up a shrimp sauté to go over pasta. I thought to myself, "I could make a similar dish that would look much better (hers was murky from all the butter), taste much better (fresh, clean flavors from a small amount of extra-virgin olive oil, garlic, dry vermouth and herbs), with a fraction of the fat and calories."

I’m with you. And “plant-based diet?” Fuggedabout it. Gimme Atkins and the Cave Man. The only time I’ve ever lost weight is on Atkins. Every time I go to salads and crap, I starve.
What are you, a diet/food nazi? Do what you wish, but don’t dictate what others do if it differs from you.
Sorry dude. Never been in a hospital except to have bone chips in my knee removed, and I’ve had three physicals in the last two years for insurance reasons and rate a gold star on every one. And I eat MEAT, MEAT, MEAT and more animal protein.
I ain’t living with any of that stuff. So don’t generalize.
GO PAULA! More BUTTER!
Well, this is because you can be vegan/vegetarian, and still eat a diet full of french fries, coca cola and fruit roll-ups. This is why I am careful to be whole food, plant based excluseivly.
No disagreement here.
Well, to me, personal choice is as about as much a celebration of freedom as you can get. But I do like sharing information, and things that I have found beneficial in my life.
I think Paula is A-Political who happens to like sasquatch and even had Jimmy Carter on the show....because Jimmy is a Georgia home boy and Moooschele is the first lady.
I do not think Paula gets politics....she is a nice touchy feely kind of southern lady....help the poor ect. It dont matter that they will never learn if you just give ‘em stuff...she don’t get that part of it...
LOL! OK. Don't go confusing me with Moochelle Obama. I'm just having a disusssion here.
“Haven’t you noticed how fat everyone seems to be?”
You are ignorant of history. People were not fat years back long before such things as artificial sweetners were invented. Why is that? Why is it that people decades back could eat all kinds of things you are stating they should not eat because it makes them fat, yet, they weren’t fat back then?
You are a typical feeble minded, brainwashed idiot that thinks we should all graze in a wheat field somewhere and root around in the dirt.
So there is no value in what he has to say?
>>> I’m just having a disusssion here.
No, you’ve descended an Ivory Tower, only to mount a high horse and tell us all your way is the only way, and if we don’t follow, we’re certain to die.
Sorry but I recall (maybe incorrectly...) that she is definitely in the left side of things...some stuff she’s said in the past, I think.
I don’t take issue with a public person unless they come out with some public, lib loving remark so I’m pretty sure she’s opened that yap in the past and pissed me off...
Did Orwell really say this?! Wow! I can attest to the fact that a lot of “health nuts” are invariably out of tune with the human condition (GB Shaw and Jane Fonda being two examples!) And often very joyless people. My mother was a health nut who made the lives of her kiddies miserable with her fear of food. She’s 87, has dozens of health issues, and is STILL eating wheat bran and Brewer’s Yeast for lunch. Feh!
True, but healthy fats come from nuts, avacados, olives, coconuts, and seeds, not animal and dairy sources.
>>No, youve descended an Ivory Tower, only to mount a high horse and tell us all your way is the only way, and if we dont follow, were certain to die.<<
You’re my hero.
How the hell am I doing that? By posting an article? By trying to have a discussion and share information? Who the hell is trying to "police" your life? How would I even have the power to do that? Talk about over sensitive? Maybe you should be on meds, and I'm anti-meds. LOL!
“I would never in a million years tell anyone what to eat - their business, their problem. I just dont want to pay for their consequences”
So, is this the typical liberal routine of trying to actually justify telling someone what to eat based on the fact they also use health insurance and you feel if their use of that insurance costs you then you do get to tell them what to eat?
We’ve heard that liberal line before on food, excercise, firearms, driving, home heating, etc.
Southern, that wasn’t meant to be directed at you, but the CNN author. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
I’m for personal responsibility. If you (not you in particular) don’t like what she cooks....quit watching, and quit whining.
**endorsement whore**
Is exactly right. She got the diabetes diagnoses 3 years ago. It took her and her managers this long to figure a way to bring it out and make money on it.
In the end her recipes will be associated with causing diabetes, whether true or not.
