Fuentes has spent 374 days at Community Regional Medical Center, the longest uninterrupted stay by a patient at the Fresno acute-care hospital, according to staff recollection.
Doctors suspect Fuentes, 35, had gallstones that developed into a gallbladder infection, which was left untreated and progressed. The average length of hospital stay for uncomplicated pancreatitis is about two weeks, with a complicated case taking as many as 45 to 65 days, according to the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. But Fuentes' case was far from uncomplicated. Fuentes had 12 surgeries overseen by three trauma physicians -- Drs. Jim Davis, Ricard Townsend and Kunjan Bhakta.
On Tuesday, the final cost of Fuentes' care was not available. Much of it will be taken on by the hospital as charity care. Last year, for all patients, the hospital provided $100 million on charity care, according to hospital spokeswoman Mary Lisa Russell.

These people break the law, sneak into this country and basically get any care they desire on the taxpayer's dime. Not a thing is done about it. This is the progressive liberal agenda that is destroying this Country.
More insanity to bancrupt this nation.
Testimony of illegal alien care from 1 Florida hospital ($3 million spent on 2
patients. YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLJxmJZXgNI
He should have been airlifted to Mexico where that country’s warm, fuzzy and highly competent social medicine scheme would have cured him in three days.
I had a fellow Freeper scold me not too long ago when I said this was a problem and they told me it was not possible for illegal aliens to get anything more than an aspirin when going to the hospital.
And it costs me almost ten grand for kidney stone treatment. And you bet your ass they are threatening you from day one to pay that bill or else.
The illegals get a free ride as usual.
Doesn’t pay to be a citizen anymore.
Be sure and read the comments under the article.
They really tell it like it is.
That fellow freeper is ignorant.
I ended up in the ER with heat exhaustion which progressed into hypothermia. My body temp dropped to 91 degrees (in July with 102 temps).
I was shaking uncontrollably, projectile vomiting and had a headache that felt like an anyerism.
I was triaged to wait behind a lobby full of NON ENGLISH SPEAKING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT CRIMINALS.
FOR FOUR F-ING HOURS.
MY STAY IN THE HOSPITAL PAID FOR BY MY HEALTH INSURANCE PAID FOR THIS SCUM TO BE TREATED WHILE AMERICANS WERE FORCED TO WAIT.
PULL THE PLUG ON THIS. LITERALLY AND FIGURATIVELY.
I know.
How this sorry trash that sneaks in to our country is treated with kid gloves just makes me so d*mn furious that I can hardly see straight!
My Magic Green Hat
The other day I needed to go to the emergency room. Not wanting to sit there for 4 hours, I put on my MAGIC GREEN HAT. When I went into the ER I noticed that 3/4 of the people got up and left.
I guess they decided that they weren’t that sick after all. Cut at least 3 hours off my waiting time.
Here’s the hat:
(pic of Border Patrol hat)
It also works at DMV. It saved me 5 hours.
At the Laundromat, three minutes after entering, I had my choice of any machine, most still running.
If you live in Texas , it might cut your wait time at the grocery store.
But...don’t try it at McDonald’s. The whole crew ran out the back door and l never got my order!
But make no mistake, they WILL get treated and YOU AND I WILL pay for it.
Anyone who says otherwise is obviously not paying attention or has not been to an emergency room in the last 30 years!
Of course, not one presidential candidate will bring this up and make it a cornerstone of their candidacy. Republicans make lip service with one sentence answers to the illegal problem in debates and position papers, but never back it up due to their fear of some perceived backlash at the polls by hispanic voters. If one credible candidate would talk specifically about these issues, they would soar in the polls. All Americans, both Republicans and Democrats, have sat in those same ER waiting rooms as you did and experienced the very same injustices. It really boggles my mind that no Republican contender will flat out say this must end and end immediately.
It had progressed to the point where I was incoherent and my husband thought I was dying.
Now we know. Call other nearby hospitals- if you have the time- and find out their waiting time. There was another hospital 15 miles away with a 10 min wait. The hospital we had gone to was brand new and hubby figured it might not be on people’s radar yet. Wrong.
There was a young American boy, maybe 8 or 9 years old, with an object in his eye who was called back just before me. He was there with his mother when we got there so who knows how long he was waiting.
And my bout with heat exhaustion lasted 2 weeks. My body thermostat is broken and I don’t perspire. Walking from my car to the house in Georgia summer heat is enough to send me to bed for at least 30 min to recover.
I believe this invasion is by design and that politicians of all stripes are in on it. Illegal aliens have invaded even the smallest of towns nowhere near the border. There is no way this is an accident.
I wonder what would happen to an uninsured American who presented with the same condition?
Over 20 years ago I witnessed something similar to this with a Peruvian who lost a foot riding the rails into this country.....after multiple surgeries and reconstructions with prosthetics total cost to NM tax-payers...>500,000K. That was 20 years ago!!
Another illegal I saw use the system was hit by a car while the illegal crossed the street drunk....(driver not cited). Illegal got a bed, 3 hots, pain meds and demanded ice cream and juice when ever he wanted for months on end. He was taken to a rehab, on our dime, for many more months then released. A few weeks later, back again with same scenario. It’s a shame!!!
What home at they sending him to ? They have to keep illegals in the hospitals, they have no insurance, ss# and nursing homes will not accept patients who cannot pay.God did not keep him there, red tape did, that and he refuse to be sent to Mexico, this is why he stayed as long as he did, nobody else wanted him. He has all these family members, to whom he could of been discharged to one of them. This guy abused the system and is why hopsital rates are so high.
We expect it of the scumbag demoRATs. That trash Jorge Busho was too much to stomach.
A visit to the E.R. can run into the multiple thousands of dollars. It did for me last year when my wife had to be taken there by ambulance.
E.R.s can’t turn anybody away, by law, so the E.R. takes the place of the family physician for many and not just illegals either, though I’m sure they may be the major problem in some parts of the country.
My wife was admitted and was there for 6 days. It was a semi private room and she had the same room mate the whole time she was there and said room mate was still there when she left. During that time period we learned a lot about her, including the fact that she didn’t have a dime to her name nor insurance either and could not have cared less about how her bill would be paid.
She was white, obese and presumably a citizen, she was constantly ordering food at all hours of the night and day and they served what she demanded and when she demanded it. What we never learned was what exactly her problem was - the reason that she was there to begin with. The only hint we got was “nerves”, she was constantly demanding and getting sedatives and pain pills. She was still there after my wife left 6 days later.
My wife had surgery when she was there and we have insurance, after our max out of pocket of $1,000 was met, our insurer paid around $180,000. (The E.R. billed separately) I told my wife that we and our insurer paid for her free loader room mate in that $180,000.
Something has to give and I’m sick and tired of it being me.
gallstone pancreatitis is a really lousy disease to get.
A friend of mine, a doctor, died of it years ago...
