The Catholic (Santorum or Gingrich) vs. the Mormon (vanity)
Me

Posted on 01/03/2012 10:45:00 PM PST by MacMattico

Would we have thought that possible a while ago?

As a Catholic, I'm quite proud!

I don't hate Mormons, but how can any reasonable individual believe what Mormons believe?

I am very happy for Rick Santorum today, and glad Newt is going after Romney. I know Romney's religion hasn't come up, but it will in any general election. Really, he has freedom to believe what he wants but it should be vetted if that's what will kill his candidacy in the general.

I was thinking Uncle Ron, the “let Iran have all the nuclear bombs they want” candidate.

I used to be Mormon. I don’t hate them, but I do hate Mormonism and the fact that their ‘church’ lies to them and sanitizes its history. That is a good part of why I left Mormonism almost 20 years ago.

I guarantee, that any ‘tough’ questions will be softballs (polygamy, blood atonement, white horse prophecy) things easily denied UNLESS someone has done real research and found the original sources (not the sanitized summaries).

However, if Mittens manages to steal the nomination, THEN the harballs will start flying - spirit vegetables, oath of consecration, oath of vengeance against the United States, wearing the aprons of Lucifer’s priesthood in the Temple) Things that those who really know and study Mormonism are aware of have the sources to prove.

Whether individual voters like it or not, if Mittens gets the nomination this WILL become all about Mormonism and shredding it to ensure Obama being re-elected. It is a big part of why he is not electable.

The other difference is that Catholics are Christians, they accept the trinity, the deity of Christ, and the Blood shed on the Cross for propitiation. Mormons believe NONE of that. They may be nice people (and I know nice ones and jerks both) but they are not Christians and anyone who has really studied them knows that.

I classify Gingrich as a Catholic near Nancy Pelosi's level of Catholicism. Conveniently Catholic whenever in front of a microphone.

It is pure folly to compare Santorum and Gingrich in terms of personal lives and religious identities.

Yes it is necessary. I want a president with whom I can agree in prayer. Santorum I can, Perry I can, Gingrich I can, Bachmann I can...

ROMNEY I CANNOT. He worships a different god, I speak from experience (see tagline).

At least Gingrich worships the right God, unlike Romney. I just require a Christian, not an unbeliever. As you point out, the Catholic church has it's challenges, just as others do. I remember when Palin was made fun of when her pastor blessed her with "tongues" in her church. If a Catholic comes into focus, we are bound to have the "alter boy" jokes start to flow. Cain quickly found out what a Baptist get's when he dares to run as a Republican.

For me, a Mormon is as foreign as a Muslim, which is why Obama and I don't see eye to eye on anything. Romney is as Republican as Barney Frank, IMHO. His strange beliefs should draw out his ability for clear judgement. A Christian and I may have very different beliefs, but we are at least on the same planet.

Well said. I’ve been ridiculed for being in the ‘worldview matters’ category and because of my background, I realize that Romney’s worldview (including but not limited to his expectation of becoming a god himself someday) is at odds with my worldview as a Christian.

I will never vote for Romney. I can’t.

I would happily vote for a Catholic but I will never vote for a Mormon. They aren’t even close to the same category.

8 votes. I smell a rat. Especially since they pulled back to nine precincts not reporting after it was down to one.

naps, lets remember we're all conservatives. Perry has some faults, but by and large he's a conservative candidate. He may not be the guy for you or me, but he's no Romney.

If Perry were the candidate, I would vote for him with no hesitation.

Romney is easy to reject as a RINO without even looking at his religion. But if he was a real conservative and a Mormon, that would be a different quesiton

I’m Lutheran (LCMS) so I think Catholics are loads of misguided fun but they are ALL Christians and I won’t judge their hearts.. ; )

As for cultish Mormons and Jew haters, I kinda have no use for their nonsense.

I think Romney is electable....I think he has the machinery in place to fight any attacks....I think he is "connected" and I think he'll have money rolling in....

do I want him?...no....

I like the macho man types better...Marco Rubio or Christie...

but alas......we are peasants and thus we will have no choice....

“Ronald Reagan truly admired the Latter-day Saints. His administration included more members of the Church than any other American president, ever. Three of us, David Fischer, Gregory Newell and I, served on his personal White House staff.”

http://famousmormons.net/pol.html

reaganaut, Ask yourself who Ronald Reagan would vote for.

Would he choose to stay at home and refuse to vote for a Mormon, thus ensuring the re-election of an America-hating Muslim?

Hey, I don’t like RINO Romney either and it’s not about him being a Mormon. But if it comes down to voting for him in the general election or watching our country be destroyed under another 4 years of Socialism/Communism/Marxism via 0bama, I will bite my tongue and pull the lever for Mitt Romney.

Should Romney be chosen to run against 0bama, your hatred of “Mormonism” should be temporarily set aside. You must consider which will be worse for America; Romney or 0bama?

Can America survive 4 years with yet another RINO Republican?

YES, WE CAN!

Can America survive 4 more years of a Marxist administration that hates our every freedom, wants to take away our guns, shred our Constitution & Bill of Rights?

NO, WE CAN’T!

I would too. I got carried away last night. Now that I have slept and look at this with fresh eyes, I wish Perry the best. Who knows he might not even drop out. Clinton received 2.5 percent in Iowa when he ran and went on to win the White House.
