Absolutely! I will be the happiest gal in the world if we can do this! And I know a whole lot of people are hoping for the same thing. We have to worry about the "slick-tongued snake oil salesman" though as he fooled many people the last time. He didn't fool me!

Well, I have a little story to tell you. A most scary thing happened to me on my way to the restaurant yesterday evening. There was 2 lanes of traffic going in the same direction and I had gotten in the left lane early because the restaurant was on the left and sometimes if there’s heavy traffic, its hard to get into the left lane. The sun had blinded me since I pulled out of my neighborhood. Its terrible this time of year. Low in the sky, ready to go down but blinding at the time.

When I noticed something in the road, it was way too late to slam on my brakes and if I had, it could have turned me sideways into the traffic on the right side or on the left, the median with a deep grassy gully. So whatever I hit, I hit it hard and it felt horrible. I thought it had torn my car up. Well, I had to watch the right hand lane to find a clearing to get over there to pull over. The tire blew out immediately of course. Luckily I got a clearing and eased over and off the road a good piece. My whole body was shaking trying to get out of the car and walk over to the passenger’s side to see the damage. You could tell the rim was bent, the tire was flat of course and the hub cap evidently flew off.

I called Barry immediately and he was on his way from the other direction. He lives a pretty good little ways and I didn’t ask him how close he was (I was so nervous). I hung up and a police car pulled over. There was a good place for both of us to park. He had seen the whole thing. He had stopped and picked up my hub cap. Well, I’ve never met a nicer person in my life. He said “Well, lets get this thing fixed.” I told him I was on my way to meet my family and company from Mississippi were visiting. He got the spare and started working. I just kept on telling him how great he was to help me. He said “thats why we’re out here.” I could not believe it.

Barry was a while arriving and the policeman was nearly finished the job when Barry arrived. Between you all and me, I did not know policemen did these kind of things. Barry and I both kept thanking him. I asked him if he had a card to give me so I could let someone know how kind he was. He gave me his card and I plan to write a letter to the editor as soon as possible. Greg is off tomorrow and told me not to worry and he would be up here tomorrow and take care of it for me. God is so good to me for giving me these sons. I couldn’t make it without them.

I know you won’t believe it but my hands are shaking now from typing this story. I woke up several times during the night and thought how much worse it could have been. Before the policeman left he said “Now, you all go on to the Mad Greek and have a good evening.” I will never forget this sweet guy. I asked him how old he was and he said he was 34. Bad things do happen to good people but I met the nicest guy in the world. And guess what it was that I hit?? It was a tire with rim in tact. It was a heavy thing to hit. I didn’t get any dents to the car.

By the way, I used my short ping list for the letter I just wrote and I don’t think you’re on the short list....sorry about that.

I just read your story Jaycee, thanks for pinging me to it. I’m so glad you weren’t hurt and hope you were able to enjoy your meal, etc.

I didn’t know policemen did that either, I’m sure it depends upon the man and thankfully you happened upon a good one, lol.

Talking about the low in the sky sun blinding you, I had that happen several times before my eye surgery. I actually had to pull over a few times when I just couldn’t see well!

Thankfully you are ok!!!

Wow, what a great story! I had a similar good samaritan thing happen the only time I ever had a flat tire.

Long time ago, I was delivering bedding plants in a medium size WI town (Janesville). At city speeds (20mph) I ran over something. I had my window down and heard a hissing noise. I was also in the left lane. By the time I rolled a few feet to the next turn off (into a large mall) the tire was completely flat.

I drove the few feet it took to be safely out of traffic in the mall parking lot. I got out and saw a razor blade sticking out of my tire!

To this day, I think some prankster put that blade in the street on purpose, sticking it in some road tar sharp side up.

Anyway, there was a Sears Automotive Center at that mall and I walked to it for help.

A very nice man walked to my van, and put on my spare tire.

I walked back and stood in line to pay.

The man at the register said it was no charge!

When I left the store, I insisted on giving the man who had done all that work a hanging basket of flowers for his wife.

That is my good Samaritan story.

It went from being scared at having a sudden flat, to glad I got help, to stunned that they wouldn’t let me pay for the help.

I think there are lots of Angels out there. They just hide until we need them.

: )

What a story!! And what a wonderful man that first responder was! I think they get such a bad rap and this just proves that they are out and about to help people who need it!

I’m soooo glad that you or your car weren’t injured!
