May your seedlings be strong and your plants perfect, my FRiends.
FIRST!!!???
Happy new year to you too!
I just ordered some seeds and can’t wait to get them and get them started in the greenhouse. I ordered Green Zebra tomatoes, Qinoa, Stevia and Market Cucumbers.
The rest of my seeds for this year I have saved from last years garden.
This is the third year I’ve ordered from Baker Creek Heirloom and have not been disapointed yet.
I noticed yesterday when I was in Lowes that they have their seeds and seed starting supplies out. I guess that maybe I should get my seeds out and round up my stuff so that I can get an on time start for a change.
Happy New Year to you too. I’ll have plenty of time to work in the yard and garden now. I officially retire from work today.
Happy New Year to one and all. We have a great looking sunny day here in Missouri. I think it may get warm enough to slip on a sweater and harvest some lettuce from the outdoor garden.
I will be planting some indoor spinach, chives, and mint this week. Maybe harvest a lemon.
Now I have a question about rosemary. I brought in a nice plant, because hubby didn’t get the bed made where I intended to plant it(a sheltered location). It was nice and green, and has been turning brown. Is this normal? Does it get brown during the winter and turn green next spring?
Everyone have a great weekend. God Bless.
We are having very high wind here in the Colorado Rockies. It is making a mess with the 3 ft of snow that fell before Christmas. The highest gust measured near here was 102 mph. Lots of whiteout highway closures.
Looking at 135 different kinds of tomato seeds right now...now I have to find a place to plant them. :-)
Needless to say; I have no business looking at paper catalogs as they arrive...the internet catalogs and forums have got me in enough trouble.
So far, I have only received my two favorite catalogs - Jung’s and Shumway’s. They make excellent January reading.
Every year, I plan my beds carefully - order my seeds and get them started - order my plants - and then the livestock start having their babies and everything dies before I have the time to get it into the ground.
No spring babies due this year, so I’m planning for my beds...hope springs eternal!
Happy New Year to ALL!
Today is Peggy’s last day at her current Wal-Mart. She has to be at her new store on the 7th and will leave here on the 5th which gives her time to get settled at her sister’s house and make a trip to her new store to introduce herself before starting. We have been using her last couple of work breaks to pack up her sewing and craft area, clothes etc. Just about everything is in boxes and neatly stacked. All that is left is my stuff and the furniture and appliances which we will move when a new house is found. I am not expecting to have to make the big move until the end of March. So Cashmere and I will be here.
We are not planning on selling our current home at this time. We plan on using it for storage and a fall back position if it is needed. I will have to make periodic trips back here to check on the property and do up keep.
Beautiful weather here in East Central Mississippi today. High blue skies and Sunny with the temp at 68. It could get to 70. Feels like spring.
Later this evening (5:30 CST). I will be tuning in to watch my Miss. State Bulldogs take on Wake Forest in the Music City Bowl. Go Dawgs!

Does anybody know anything about Maple Syrup? I have been given 2 qts. of real Wisconsin maple syrup. They might be quart and a half jars. They are big, and dirty, and have discolored rings. There is more where that came from. The syrup was made from the trees on the land that she is now leaving. Some of it is 2-3 years old. Her kids won’t eat it because they like Mrs. Butterworth’s (fools that they are).
I would like to open these jars and split the syrup into several smaller jars (’cause I don’t need to eat all that maple syrup either) to give to friends and family. The caps are tightly sealed.
Does anybody know if there is any danger here and I how I would go about doing it (splitting the syrup into smaller jars). Would I repeat the entire canning process?
I know how the syrup is distilled (a laborious process) but I don’t know how it was canned. The guy who gathers the sap and boils it down always gives an armload of syrup to my friend and she can’t use it all. She’s moving this month — hence she gave me the extra syrup.
Or should I just open this syrup and decant it into smaller jars, screw the lid on and tell people to use it right away. I’ve never seen maple syrup spoil — just crystalize and you heat it up and use it.
Anybody know?

We have cut back drastically in the vegetable department but Lady Bender starts lots of annual flower seeds.
There was a time when we maintained 2 large veggie gardens, one here on the coast and one 70 miles NE in a warmer drier climate...

There are plenty of new seed catalogues here to read and look through~~perfect for long dark evenings! If the winter continues not much colder than it has been, we could be as little as 6-7 weeks away from the very first flowers!
Happy
New
Year!
Can’t wait to plant the garden in spring!
I told myself I was going keep the seeds under $100 this year.
Yeah right.
