Happy New Year to one and all. We have a great looking sunny day here in Missouri. I think it may get warm enough to slip on a sweater and harvest some lettuce from the outdoor garden.

I will be planting some indoor spinach, chives, and mint this week. Maybe harvest a lemon.

Now I have a question about rosemary. I brought in a nice plant, because hubby didn’t get the bed made where I intended to plant it(a sheltered location). It was nice and green, and has been turning brown. Is this normal? Does it get brown during the winter and turn green next spring?

Everyone have a great weekend. God Bless.

Rosemary dies during the winter unless you live in a mild climate. (Think Rome, Italy) I used to have one that I treated as a shrub in CA, but they are annuals here. They would live indoors in a pot if you had a cool place for it, but the dry winter heat gets mine, so I never try. I just buy a new plant every spring.

One of my daughters was just appalled when she was about 4 and saw me break off a sprig, run it under the faucet and strip it directly into the spagghetti sauce simmering on the stove. It put her off of spagghetti for years. She told everyone that I put “sticks” in the sauce.

I always admire those rosemary plants trained as topiaries, but I never buy them because they would die in the winter here.

Glad that your weather is nice! I have no idea on the rosemary, but hopefully will let us know ... I have 5 brown plants myself. I’m fairly certain that there is a lady up north that can give us some info.
