I hoped they’d set aside the years of bickering and celebrate this anniversary. Brian Wilson’s and Al Jardine’s recent albums were both excellent, and the Mike Love/Bruce Johnston touring band puts on a good show; I imagine this will be a musically-strong reunion.

Maybe the Beach Boys can dig up Carl for a cameo song the way the Beatles did with John.

Al Jardine did something like that last year with good results. He found an unfinished track of Carl’s called “Don’t Fight the Sea,” added his vocals and invited Brian Wilson and Mike Love in to complete the track. Sounds like it could have been recorded in ‘63. It’s here:

The very first concert I ever saw was the Beach Boys, The 4 Seasons and Tommy James and the Shondells at Madison square garden. That was in the early 70’s...good times!

Well,,,, I’m pleased to hear it, even though I never liked them. I was a Zappa guy! No reconciling the two approaches. But it will be interesting to hear what they come up with, as more mature musicians.

We Are The Old - From Married With Children

We are the old, we’ve got arthritis,
Our gums are weak [so weak], from gingivitis.
We are the old, we’ve got arthritis,
We are the ones who wear bifocals, and have bursitis.
There are people younger, but we heed another call,
We really need the money, our accountants took it all.
We sing to you, those who have money,
Once we was cool, but now we just dress funny.
We need your help, so please please dig deep,
Don’t call after ten, ‘cause we’ll be asleep.
We have Medicare, and anti-gas pills,
But without your help, we can’t pay our alimony bills.
We are the old, [They are the old,]
We have arthritis. [They have arthritis.]
Once we were gods, now golf excites us. [Golf excites ‘em.]
So write a check [a really big one], for our December,
There’s one more verse, but we can’t remember...
