Various Mayan scholars have attempted to debunk this reading, including Sven Gronemeyer of Australias La Trobe University, who has studied the Tortugero tablet in great detail. On Wednesday he presented his decoding of the inscription, suggesting that Bolon Yoktes prophesied appearance on December 21, 2012, represents the start of a new era and not the end of days. Proponents of the apocalyptic interpretation have misunderstood the poorly preserved hieroglyphs, he said.

Hey give them a brake! They were only a month or so off from the Apocalypse.

Curiosity about Mayans, the occult, mysticism, and every false religion there is has brought America to her knees. It is time to get the truth about the past, present, and future from the Bible, and trust in the Lord God Almighty. He is the only way.

If they Mayans were really that smart, they would have foreseen their own demise first.

Despite the fact that none of this nonsense is going to happen it will still pay to be prepared because everyone ELSE is going to panic. That means a run of food, gas, water, etc, most likely violence and panic as well.
Boy Scout motto is fitting here.

“Start of a new era” can be interpreted in a number of ways and not all of them are a bed of roses for those undergoing the transition.

Since the Mayans didn’t save themselves from their OWN extinction( assuming they successfully predicted it) it does seem more than stupid to trust their precognitative abilities regarding ours.
If Mayans were that prescient, there would still be a Mayan civilization.

See if you can get all those believers you know to sign documents giving you all their money and property come Dec 2012. THAT’S what I call being prepared.

Start of a new era can be interpreted in a number of ways and not all of them are a bed of roses for those undergoing the transition. It could also mean "We're out of rock, see the new edition of our calendar."
My sophisticated, modern calendars run out annually. The world hasn't ended yet.

I never did expect the world to end but anyone can look at the international news and see it isn’t going to be a Rose Parade next year.

I guess that means that “The Discovery Channel” will have to pull about 30 years worth of programming including anything that refers to the Mayan Calendar.
