In February of this year my older brother went to the hospital due to severe pain and swelling in one leg. Those doctors could not figure out what was causing the pain and swelling, so they sent him home to see his own doctor. His doctor could not figure out the problem either; mean while his other leg started hurting. He was sent to Houston for yet another set of test; still no results. His doctor and the doctors in Houston tried different treatments (medicine) to treat his pain. By this time he has used up his vacation, sick leave and disability time at work so they fired him. Last month he went to another set of doctors, this time in Temple, TX for more test. They determined he had anmemia and hyper or hyposomething (I cant remember) and asked him to come back this week for results of test and some more testing.
I received a phone call from my sister-in-law yesterday telling me the doctors determined my brother might have Myelofibrosis ~ which if not treated could lead to Leukemia. The ran different blood test and today did a bone marrow biopsy. Those test came back that he has Leukemia. Tomorrow the bone marrow results will determine if the type of Leukemia he has is aggressive or non-aggressive. If non-aggressive, he will receive a week of chemo and have to stay in the hospital for at least one month. My sister-in-law said she went blank before she could hear about what will happen if the Leukemia is aggressive.
Please pray that the Leukemia is non-aggressive and that my brother can be healed with as little as pain as possible.
Thanks for the update TheMom. My prayers are continuing.
Thanks for the update, continuing to pray here.
Prayers ongoing for you and your family.
Thanks, Mom. Please keep us informed.
With medicine today, it’s certainly not over.
More prayers up!
Prayers continue
IMHO, M D Anderson is the place to be if you have any form of cancer. They can’t cure everybody, but their survival rate is very good.
The other place that is very good is Sloan Kettering.
Thanks for the update. You and your family have been on my mind today.
They should not have ANY problem “getting him in” to MDAnderson. In fact, he can refer himself:
https://www2.mdanderson.org/sapp/contact/selfreferral/index.cfm
The sooner he establishes contact with MDA, the better. They can start to get all of his records and will know right off the bat at the first appointment any other testing that needs to be done and will get most, if not all, of it scheduled and done on that day.
Godspeed.
Prayers continue.
Since it's close to the anniversary, I'l relate it.
I fell on ice. No big deal, unless you are miles away from everybody, and wandered off to get some privacy to answer a call of nature/talk to a man about a horse/bleed a lizard... or whatever euphanism you might want to use for a full bladder.
During a blizzard, on a moutain. Not my best ever judgement.
Slip, fall, ouch.. Like serious ouch. Passing out in a blizzard, repeatedly, hypothermia, internal bleeding, frostbite.
Assurance of salvation and acceptance of my probable future were there also.
But I did make it. Yay! (I suppose... it was nice when things were quiet).
I only lost a kidney and spleen and spent 2 weeks in the ICU.
Avoid if possible.... It always sucks, regardless of how pretty the nurses are.
My first rule, when stuck on a mountainside, during a blizzard, is to check my relationship with Christos. If that's ok, I'll be ok. And that worked for me.
Although, I would really be happier if I had gone home. Not to mention friends and family that know me.
