Well-Loved

December 5, 2011

A friend described his grandmother as one of the greatest influences in his life. Throughout his adult years, he has kept her portrait next to his desk to remind himself of her unconditional love. “I really do believe,” he said, “that she helped me learn how to love.”

Not everyone has had a similar taste of human love, but through Christ each of us can experience being well-loved by God. In 1 John 4, the word love occurs 27 times, and God’s love through Christ is cited as the source of our love for God and for others. “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins” (v.10). “We have known and believed the love that God has for us” (v.16). “We love Him because He first loved us” (v.19).

God’s love is not a slowly dripping faucet or a well we must dig for ourselves. It is a rushing stream that flows from His heart into ours. Whatever our family background or experiences in life—whether we feel well-loved by others or not—we can know love. We can draw from the Lord’s inexhaustible source to know His loving care for us, and we can pass it on to others.

In Christ our Savior, we are well-loved.

Loved with everlasting love,
Led by grace that love to know—
Spirit, breathing from above,
Thou hast taught me it is so! —Robinson

Nothing is more powerful than God’s love.

Read: 1 John 4:7-21

We love Him because He first loved us. —1 John 4:19

Gorgeous Grandma

My Grandma is a gorgeous girl,
She’s caught up in a social whirl,
With parties every night but six,
But still, she lets me get my fix,

Of cookies, and a chocolate treat,
My every tooth just loves to eat,
And sometimes when I stay with her,
I am her cookie cutter-er.

My “Mommie” taught me to crochet and embroidery. Since I am the oldest of five, it was special one-on-one time.

I so remember sitting on her porch helping her shell peas. LOL .... These were special times spent talking and enjoying each other’s company.

Loved your poem, Nicknamed Bob!
Thank you for posting it, Amy!

Computer Swallowed Grandma

Author: unknown

The computer swallowed grandma,
Yes, honestly it's true.
She pressed “control” and “enter”
And disappeared from view.

It devoured her completely,
The thought just makes me squirm.
She must have caught a virus
Or been eaten by a worm.

I've searched through the recycle bin
and files of every kind:
I've even used the Internet,
but nothing did I find.

In desperation, I asked Jeeves
My searches to refine.
The reply from him was negative,
Not a thing was found “online”.

So, if inside your “Inbox”,
My Grandma you should see,
Please “Copy”, “Scan” and “Paste” her
And send her back to me!

Wow...Nana taught me to sew.

And I don’t just mean dresses..tailoring, Home decor, Draperies with swags and jabots, stuffed animals, and UPHOLSTERY!

Without a pattern, LOL!

She was a seamstress and a milliner.

My Mom taught me to sew on bottons on my shirts at a young age.

She worked in a few drapery stores/shops and all our curtains and draperies were home made. She also did upholstery.

Watching her sew and feeding the thread through the sewing machine I picked up on it and later in life, probably to my mechanical abilities as a plumber, I re-upolstered a couple of chairs. Turned out pretty good.

But my chosen career as a plumber/pipefitter was my favorite thing to do.

*Smile*

My mother sewed without a pattern. I showed her a dress that I wanted for 8th grade graduation. I don’t remember but it must have been a lot more than my parents could afford. For graduation, I had a copy of that dress with a couple of extras. It was lovely. I wish I had a picture of it.

Parents and grandparents are such an influence on the type of person we become.
