Its been almost two years since I posted at Big Hollywood regarding the Top 10 Most Overrated Directors of All Time. Ive had a chance to reflect and think about the crimes I committed in that post. And, to paraphrase Mr. Eko from the greatest TV show of all time, Lost, I ask no forgiveness because I have committed no sin except leaving Spike Lee and Tim Burton off the list, that is.
So, because you all enjoyed that list so much, and because I apparently have a death wish, its time for another: The Top 10 Most Overrated Actors/Actresses of All Time
(Excerpt) Read more at bighollywood.breitbart.com ...
Starring with him in that movie was Kurt Russell who also transforms himself into the character. He has gone from comedy to drama and played a wide range of characters alwaays leaving 'Kurt Russell' at the door. Going from Elvis Presley in "Elvis", then Captain Ron, the hapless ocean going bum, to portraying US Olympic hockey team coach Herb Brooks in "Miracle" is not something a lot of actors seem capable of.
On the other side of that coin are guys like Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Redford that are always just Tommy or Robert on a different set.
Of course, my opinions mean little because I am not educated in the trade and like many audiences, I am drawn to the personality of the actor himself. To refute my own comments, I offer Robert Duvall. He has very much the same look and personality in every role he tackles. But, I find him very compelling. I like the way he moves, and expresses himself and I enjoy watching any of his work, even if I've seen it before.
Back to Kilmer's performance in Tombstone; another classic biographical portrayal that (still) moves me is Gary Busey as Buddy Holly.
Speaking of overrated...along with every other SNL alum since 1987.
Excellent! Barbra Streisand?
Brad Pitt’s best role was as Geoffrey Goins in 12 Monkeys. Spoiled rotten rich kid playing at being a revolutionary. Very apt for today’s occupy movement.

Must whole heartedly disagree with putting Katherine Hepburn on that list..”Bringing Up Baby” “Philadelphia Story” “African Queen” “Lion in Winter” and “On Golden Pond” movies represent nearly five decades of movie excellence..and then the Tracy/Hepburn films were just silly fun (except “Guess Who is Coming To Dinner”)..
I must take exception to this list. Will not detail but will say all of them have had their terrible movies (hey captialism works in Hollywood - pay me enough N I will do your crappy movie) and many of them have put in fine performances over the years.
The photography & advanced techniques in editing have made for better showing of performances.
Just like music, art and food.. we each have our tastes & likes/dislikes.
George clooney has had some interesting roles.. not sure he is a good or bad actor (again I have seen him both) but he is mighty fine to look at!!!
I think the list for bad actors far exceeds the list for good actors.....
I think Jennifer Aniston could be on the list.....
Barney Rubble was one hell of an actor !!!
Kevin Costner although nice on a lady’s eyes, is the worst actor of all time. That Robin Hood movie should prove my point.
The Razor’s Edge was hilarious. Bill Murray had me rolling on the floor. I wasn’t supposed to? Murray is funny just standing there. See everything he’s in. Love to see him play Lady Macbeth.
Karen Allen
Molly Ringwald
Meg Ryan
Mary Steenburgen
Daryll Hannah
Valeria Golino
Jennifer Jason Leigh
Val Kilmer ... listen, I loved his pretty, gentle version of Doc Holiday in Tombstone (which I've seen so many times I don't even know why I watch it because I've got the script memorized; first line: "Y'all killed two cowboys." Last line: "Room service!"), and he was magnificent as Jim Morrison in The Doors ... but honestly? Dennis Quaid's meaner, skinnier, feistier Doc Holliday in the otherwise much-inferior Costner-produced Wyatt Earp, was better in nearly every way. Frankly, I think Quaid deserved at least an Oscar nomination for it. Now THAT is blasphemy, I know, but I think Kilmer's performance was way overrated in Tombstone, and that (as usual) Kurt Russell's performance was way underrated.
Well, I've done my good deed for the day, mayor.
Agree on Streep. I think she’s one of the best. To me the single most overrated Hollywood personality is Jennifer Anniston. Every time I see one of her movies, I go, “How in the WORLD did she ever get major film contracts?”
I like Bill Murray but in some appearances I get the same vibe that my father stated about all of his movies that he acts like he's doing us all a favor by being on the screen. Haven't seen him around town yet but have went to some of the same places he does. Not trying to see him but it would be cool if I did.
Julia Roberts
One good performance in "The Manchurian Candidate."
Miami Blues. Perky. Some of her anyway.
