So just reject it and set it to not do automatic updates. The one I found that was most important was not even documented. Firefox has been locking up lately...the cure was to update Adobe Flash to the Version 11. Problem solved.

Apparently those updates aren’t actually able to update or something.

I'd rather NO SOFTWARE was able to do auto-updates... Get a Mac.

There is a very good reason they are coming out.
You see, Adobe is a security nightmare. Adobe is patching security holes, and these various holes leave your machine open to some nasty security violations.
This is why Steve Jobs came right out and said that the iPhone, iPad and iPods would NOT (ever) support Adobe Flash. It appears that a vast majority of issues Apple has had with virus, trojans and other nastiness has been through exploits in Adobe.
So, Adobe is busy patching the mess; and there are a lot of holes to patch.

Why don’t you just update the Adobe Reader?
I am assuming that you are not updating.
Like another already suggested, go in preferences section of each program you do not want to automatically update and turn it off.
And the usual question that people post as a funny here “Are you logged in?”.
To: djf
These are mostly security updates. They are coming out constantly because they are finding more security holes as fast as they can fix them.
Whatever you do, don't ignore them.

I think it’s a Chinese virus that plants malicious software in everybody’s computer so that one fine day when they think Obama is not sincere enough in his apologies they can bring our entire network and all our computers into a complete meltdown.

Others already said so, but let me repeat. You need only one update - and that is to remove Acrobat Reader from your computer. It is a huge, slow, bug-infested mess.
Instead you download the free Foxit Reader. It's much, much faster than Acrobat Reader. Make sure you DON'T allow PDF documents to be opened in your browser (there will be two settings for that, IIRC.)

I haven’t had any Adobe reader updates recently. I think you mean Adobe Flash Player.

Very annyoing indeed. What bugs me more however is windows up-dates. You load them, shut down, restart and whats the 1st thing that pops up? “You have new updates available”
To: djf
What else do you have to do when you update?
You have to check they you read the fine print in the software agreement.
Ever think that with constant updates they are luring you into checking the box without reading it?
Ever wonder if one day you will check the box without reading it and find that there is a clause that allows them to seize all of your assets?
Conspiracy stirring is fun. It may even get some of the Ron Paul cult concerned.

Running Acrobat 9 on my iMac. Practically every day I get a message from Adobe asking me if I want to upgrade by downloading Acrobat 8.3.
Yes, it is annoying and makes no sense.
