Report: White House Already Seeking to Downplay Jobs Speech
The Blaze ^ | 9/3/2011 | Madeline Morgenstern

After some very public drama this past week about the logistics behind President Barack Obama’s address to a joint session of Congress on jobs, White House aides are reportedly already trying to downplay the significance of what the president will be talking about Thursday night.

According to Fox News, word is privately spreading that Obama will not be presenting his entire jobs plan:

Aides say Thursday’s speech will be part of a bigger plan the White House will roll out throughout the fall with the president hitting the road for speeches and town hall appearances. Aides have already confirmed that Obama will be traveling to California, Colorado, and Washington state for one three-day swing later this month that will include economic events as well as some fundraising.

The move could be a way to try and lower the stakes for Thursday’s Joint Session appearance, but it could also be an attempt by the administration to show the president is trying to stay all over the economy heading into what will likely be an uphill re-election battle.

“There’s no question the president will want to keep returning to jobs,” one top aide told Fox News. “I don’t want to downplay the speech [next week] — it’s going to be substantial. But the idea that this is the be-all and end-all is wrong.”

Instead, Obama may try to highlight individual proposals on the road, campaign-style, as 2012 GOP hopefuls hit the trails themselves.

Details about what exactly the president plans to present are still very sparse, although he is asking federal agencies to identify potential infrastructure projects that could lend themselves to job creation, The Blaze reported Thursday.

According to Politico, Obama will also challenge the 12-member “congressional supercommittee” during Thursday’s speech to exceed their $1.5 trillion budget savings goal, but won’t present his own promised “very specific” deficit recommendations until afterward.

His speech will come less than a week after the Bureau of Labor Statistics released its August jobs report that showed no net jobs were created last month, and revised its earlier reports for June and July to show fewer jobs were created during those months than originally thought.

This is where Saul Alinsky reaches his limit.

It’s easier to destroy than build.

Omoslem is just about done flattening the economy.

After this point, his every move converts more folks to “Wow, what’s this dirty moslem marxist pulling NOW?”

Obama will “pivot” to jobs. Just wait. Any day now. After he’s done regulating the economy out of existence.

Synopsis of Obama speech: Jobs good. I’m for jobs.

The “tremendous importance” is the re-election of the divine one.

Well finally the truth begins to rear it's ugly head now that it's no longer avoidable! I would downplay the speeches as well.

The reality of this is that these speeches are nothing more than a "Keep My Job" plan.

Good point. I guess Obummer mistook giving a speech about jobs to actually doing something about jobs. To Obama and his media sycophants, speaking is doing. Not that the government can actually create jobs - other than gov’t jobs that is.

He should turn this all around. Obama has created un-jobs. All he has to do is get the labor department to define being unemployed as a job. Problem solved. He could appeal to all who aspire to get paid for doing nothing - most of the core Dumbocrats. Sure beats working. I’m sure the media will go along. After all, the left has redefined marriage. Why not employment?

Zero and his minions as we say in the airplane flying business is “Out of airspeed, altitude and ideas”. I expect this time around his act will be about as welcome as a turd in the punch bowl to a large part of the voting electorate.. TALK, TALK, TALK, TALK, wears thin even on the ignorant unemployed masses!

Sarah Palin gets better with every speech.

Barack Obama gets worse with every speech. In fact, he looks and sounds like a second term Lame Duck and he is only three years in.

Of course Obama knows that the Useful Idiots still blame everybody but him for the Economy. That's why he is taking the blame Congress for everything route.

That will be the entire theme of his so called speech, with Obama looking like he is lecturing those Evil Republicans and Tea Party folks sitting there listening to him in the Chamber.

I think he will get his lowest ratings ever, at least I hope so. I need a good laugh.

This is more of a rallying cry to his faithful followers (the MSM) than anything else

A whole new set of talking points for them to spin nightly

It will be meaningless pablum spoken by Obama to the people but the nectar of the gods to his sycophants in the media

potential infrastructure projects

Means infrastructure spending

Which means more taxes.

Sounds like they are downplaying the speech because they already know it is going to be a big goose egg.

The lying sack-o-shit Fuehrer has squat for a plan; like he was going to come up with one in two weeks.

It’s not exactly a “captive” audience. He addresses the House only by invitation/permission of the House. They have every right to boo him, stand and turn their backs to him, call him the liar that he is and yes, even walk out on him.

The GOP needs to understand that their conservative base is tired of them playing nice, rolling over and showning respect where none is due.

Geo. Washington caught so much flack when he first addressed the House that he never went back.

Civility and politeness is not a requirement as the democrats showed in their treatment of Geo. Bush.

My guess is that while Barry was vacationing he had some lefty, Harvard educated domestic engineers cooking up a costly new union government jobs plan that provides no public benefit as usual. Barry does not have ideas as such, he’s just a connoisseur of whatever lefty currently is in vogue with the editorial boards of lefty publications. He likes simple ideas without figuring in the unintended consequences of the rube goldberg machinations in the details. No one is buying it anymore.

In order for this to be the greatest speech of all time that will move mountains, cause church bells to ring spontaneously, make lions lay down with lambs, and save Obama’s sorry ass, they’re going to have to lower expectations a little.

Plans for anything other than parries and vacations are not some thing that this POTUS will ever state as when asked he will only say “PRESENT”.
