SO, after much anticipation, I finally had the chance to try Five Guys Burgers and Fries.
And after hearing and reading all the hype, I was definetly...What would be the correct word?...

>> And if you start cooking your own fries out on the back patio
I’ll bet that’s true, but it would be really dangerous. As much as I like fries, after a couple months of making as many as I could eat, they’d mistake me for the Goodyear blimp and fly me to a football game or something.

I agree, of the fast food chains, Wendy's is my fave.
For favorite burger outright, its Fuddruckers. I just hate the place inside. And its not the type of place where you order a burger and walk out 10-15 minutes later.

Agree with everything you said. (Although the five guys' fries weren't bad.)I will also throw in Red Robin for being over-priced AND over-rated.
The Steak 'n' Shake Wisconsin Butter Burger is phenomenally good, just toasted bun, butter, grilled onions and cheese. Also, their non-Chicago hot dog is exceptional.

I’ve always thought Wendy’s was the best. They grind their beef on the premises.

I think the burgers and fries there are a nice change.
However, the best burgers are the Fuddruckers Elk or Buffalo burgers.

I also like Hardies Thick Burgers. The mushroom and swiss is the best.

What say you?
What say I? Saith I, what expectest thou from a burger chain, no matter the price? Far superior burgers have I had from sports bars indeed. Support thy local burger cook.
What I thought was interesting about Five Guys is that they actually had bottles of vinegar in their condiments section, and having lived in a country where fries are served with salt and vinegar (no ketchup), that was welcome. The burgers remind me of Sonic's burgers, to wit sloppy and overpriced (at least they do say that their burgers are fresh, their buns have a five-day shelf life and they cut their own fries); just to mitigate that, I got mine with "the works" (the maximum number of toppings), which doesn't necessarily add to the slop but doesn't detract from it either.

Sounds similar to Steak and Ale in the early days. One of the best sirloinburgers in North America was in a Steak and Ale in Niagara Falls. Another one was in San Jose, California where they had a wine license.
I used to watch for them when on travel because they had the best buy for the money and the burgers were exceptional.

Thanks for the advice. They have one in Bolingbrook, Il, about a half hour away. I’ll have to try it, next time I’m that way.

Wendy’s does not grind their meat but buys it fresh never frozen.

I thought their burgers were pretty great. I’m kind of a fan of a moist burger though (some would say greasy) so their burgers appeal to me. I thought the taste was good. Every condiment and topping you could imagine and some you can’t.
Now the fries are interesting. They’re a little tasteless, natural cut and you get a lot of them. They are fried in peanut oil for those who who like that idea.
I think they’re prices are kind of high but I liked the experience.
I’d rate them better than Fuddruckers or Red Robin. I will say though that most towns have a locally owned bar that has better burgers.
Still I would not call Five Guys “overrated”.

Red Robin has a broad spectrum menu so you can take folks with you who have any number of eating restrictions and there’ll be something they can eat.

I agree.
The burgers were okay, the fries were awful.
