Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to a six-year contract and a league source told ESPN's Andrew Brandt the deal is worth $100 million.

The Eagles made the announcement Monday night.

A league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Vick's deal contains roughly $40 million guaranteed.

The Eagles designated Vick with their franchise player tag before the lockout and had until Sept. 20 to sign him to a multiyear contract.

Under the franchise tender, Vick was set to earn about $16 million this year. He once had a $130 million deal with the Atlanta Falcons that was the NFL's richest before losing two seasons of his career while incarcerated for 18 months in a federal prison for dogfighting.

If he’s truly changed his life and become a better person, good. If not, he’ll waste the money.

He is a schmuck of a human being. The only way Vick could redeem himself is to donate 99%+ of that contract sum to the SPCA and AKC. A man cruel to dogs is the worst sort of person. He has no integrity.

While I agree with much of Ayn Rand, this is ultimately where a pure profit motive, untempered by Christian morality leads us.

No, this is where billions in TV advertising revenue and government subsidies (taxpayer-bought stadiums) leads us.

LOL. So someone who serves their sentence and pays their debt to society is not allowed to use their talents to make as much money as possible?

I watched him play the other evening....AFTER.....he got the $100M gig. He had no protection at all.....but still scrambled his keester off......and practically won the game single-handed. I know that is an exaggeration, but it really locks my jaws to see the guy trying to do his job with no protection. By the looks of things, some of the guys making a $M or less may be OVERPAID!

I wonder....all these bleeding hearts STILL weeping into their lace hankies over a couple of DOGS.....how many of them give anywheres CLOSE to a DAMN about the millions of innocent children who have been and ARE BEING slaughtered every day, just in this country; not to mention the rest of the world?!

Bingo. Anyone who opposes Vick making as much money with his talents as he can is not a conservative.

your tax dollars at work

sports teams get more of their wealth from Fed and state governments than they ever get from ticket sales, TV rights, merchandizing, etc.

if we could cut off the flow of OUR tax dollars, watch the salaries plummet.

"No, this is where billions in TV advertising revenue and government subsidies (taxpayer-bought stadiums) leads us."

I can certainly see where Rand (and I) object to taxpayer subsidized stadiums, but how is TV advertising revenue anti-Randian? The fact of the matter is that a morally numb football team sees in Vick the opportunity to boost sales to a morally numb fan base, who probably will run out to buy tickets and Vick-endorsed products. Certainly I'm not objecting to anybody's rights to do any of that. My point only is this is the type of stuff that when celebrated and rewarded inevitably leads to cultural degradation.

Good for Vick. Yeah, the guy messed up, but as far as I can tell he has sincerely repented. I have seen some interviews of him and he sure is a far cry from the arrogant, cocky punk that he used to be. It is time to allow forgiveness.

Wonder how the contract works if injured
Does he only get paid for the current playing year

He si not going to last

He was like the walking wounded last year and has been getting creamed during preseason this year

He is only 6’ 200 lbs.

Eagles are crazy

Totally agree....I’m sick about this. This SOB doesn’t even deserve to live after how much animal killing and abuse happened by his hand.

The National Felons League strikes again...I don't even bother watching the Super Bowl anymore...

How much will ticket prices increase to pay such an absurd compensation package?

Every team has strict guidelines about how much they have to spend on salaries. All the teams have to spend roughly the same amount. They all have a maximum and minimum to work within, and those numbers are pretty close together. Therefore if a team has several very highly paid players they will generally have less well paid and less talented players at the other positions. One players salary shouldn't affect ticket prices. However, having one dynamic player who can win you games single handedly will put more butts in the seats and more eyes on the television.

Without bringing abortion, Obama, dogs, greed and dang near anything else into it, I don’t think he is going to earn that money unless he changes the way he plays.

If he was a scrambler like Fran Tarkenton...he might last. But if he plays like a running back who throws, he’ll take some shots, and those add up.

If the Eagles want to pay him that, and their fans still buy the tickets, then I guess it is their business.

Remember, football is entertainment, not sport, not merit or skill. The salary is based on how many people will watch you or your team. Same reason Mike Tyson could make $27M on a fight even if he lost and $30M if he won.

"It is time to allow forgiveness. "

Many of the dogs are still injured and still suffering from this scum-bag.

Forgiveness...you're unbelieveable!!

Do you know that people who have a desire to injure animals have serious, serious mental problems?

He will do something sick again (maybe years from now) when the spotlight is lifted.
