Rare, detailed inscription is genuine, says a TAU researcher
In Jerusalem and Judah, ancient limestone burial boxes containing skeletal remains called ossuaries are fairly common archaeological finds from the 1st century BCE to the 1st century AD period. Forgers have also added inscriptions or decorations to fraudulently increase their value. So three years ago, when the Israel Antiquities Authority confiscated an ossuary with a rare inscription from antiquities looters, they turned to Prof. Yuval Goren of Tel Aviv University's Department of Archaeology to authenticate the fascinating discovery.
Prof. Goren, who worked in collaboration with Prof. Boaz Zissu from Bar Ilan University, now confirms that both the ossuary and its inscription are authentic. The ossuary's inscription, which is unusually detailed, could reveal the home of the family of the biblical figure and high priest Caiaphas prior to their exodus to Galilee after 70 AD. Caiaphas is infamous for his involvement in the crucifixion of Jesus.

A detail of the ossuary's inscription
Son up ping.
Whatever happened with the “Joseph” burial box?
Good Caiaphas the council waits for you
The Pharisees and Priests are here for you
CAIAPHAS:
Ah gentlemen - you know why we are here
We've not much time and quite a problem here
CROWD (outside):
Hosanna! Superstar!...
ANNAS:
Listen to that howling mob of blockheads in the street!
A trick or two with lepers and the whole town's on its feet
ALL:
He is dangerous
CROWD (outside):
Jesus Christ Superstar - tell us that you're who they say you are
ALL:
He is dangerous
PRIEST 1:
That man is in town right now to whip up some support
PRIEST 2:
A rabble rousing mission that I think we must abort
ALL:
He is dangerous !
CROWD ( outside ):
Jesus Christ Superstar....
ALL:
He is dangerous!
PRIEST 2:
Look Caiaphas - they 're right outside our yard
PRIEST 1:
Quick Caiaphas - go call the Roman guard
CAIAPHAS:
No wait - we need a more permanent solution to our problem...
ANNAS:
What then to do about Jesus of Nazareth
Miracle wonderman - hero of fools?
PRIEST 2:
No riots, no army, no fighting, no slogans
CAIAPHAS:
One thing I'll say for him - Jesus is cool
ANNAS:
We dare not leave him to his own devices
His half - witted fans will get out of control
PRIEST 1:
How can we stop him?
PRIEST 2:
His glamour increases
PRIEST 1:
By leaps every minute
PRIEST 2:
He's top of the poll
CAIAPHAS:
I see bad things arising - the crowd crown him king
Which the Romans would ban
I see blood and destruction,
our elimination because of one man
Blood and destruction because of one man
ALL:
Because, because, because of one man
CAIAPHAS:
Our elimination because of one man
ALL:
Because, because, because of one, 'cause of one, 'cause of one man
PRIEST 1:
What then to do about this Jesusmania?
ANNAS:
How do we deal with the carpenter king?
PRIEST 1:
Where do we start with a man who is bigger
PRIEST 2:
Than John was when John did his Baptism thing?
CAIAPHAS:
Fools! You have no perception!
The stakes we are gambling are frighteningly high!
We must crush him completely!
So like John before him, this Jesus must die
For the sake of the nation this Jesus must die
ALL:
Must die, must die, this Jesus must die
CAIAPHAS:
So like John before him, this Jesus must die
ALL:
Must die, must die, this Jesus must,
Jesus must, Jesus must die!
I first saw “Jesus Christ Superstar” on Broadway, my gosh it must have been close to 40 years ago, it doesn’t seem possible. Anyway, I thought then that it was remarkable that people who did not have religious beliefs could write and perform such a remarkable play. The words and actions were, mostly, spot on as how the Gospel could be explained in modern language. Much of the text was actually right from scriptures.
After I saw the movie I couldn’t get it out of my mind and had many of my friends go see it. My little sister cried at the end, she said she didn’t expect them to kill him. I said, “how else did you expect the story of Christ to end?”
Anyway, your post brought back a bunch of really good memories.
The Caiaphias Sarcaphagus?
First time I've seen a mismatch like that. Doesn't reference Christ but "Year of Our Lord" (in Latin) is okay.
Interesting.
Hubby was listening to that just the other day!
Hubby and I saw the movie, and didn’t like it at all. Teddy Neely’s voice was just too WIMPY for the portrayal of Jesus. I like the original cast recording the best.

Bump!
Apparently the writer doesn’t know the meaning of anno domini. :-)
I saw JCSS in San Francisco around 1971-72.We had orchestra seats. We were the guests of one of my husband’s vendors. The couple who were our hosts were originally from some place in the South, and they were giggling that their parents would be appalled that they were going to see such a scandalous production!
Because we were so close to the front, I mainly remember how LOUD the music was. There were 2-3 rock bands in this production — one in the pit, another on stage, and perhaps another some place else on stage. Not sure about the third. Because our seats were so close, I sat through the entire play with my fingers in my ears because the sound was so painful. My ears hurt until the next day from my fingernails pressing into my ear canals trying to reduce the noise.
Loved the music, however. I just prefer it at a reduced decibal rate!
It was exposed as a fraud.
I don’t think I’d heard of a “Joseph” burial box. There was the James Ossuary, maybe that’s what you’re thinking of?

They split the difference, nice catch.
Thanks, that was it. Your link was from three years ago, just wondered whatever happened with it since then such as if they'd found further connections.
My pleasure. The rush to judgment against authenticity was breathtaking, and, as it proved out, false. I was reading some comments here on FR from some people who should know better that it was proved to be a fraud, when in fact, it was shown that the only possible fraud was perpetrated by those making the accusations of fraud.
