Sarah Palin on Immigration (in her own words)
On the Issues ^ | Updated Aug 2011 | Sarah Palin

Supports a path to citizenship, but no amnesty for illegals

Q: Should undocumented immigrants all should be deported?

A: There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant - there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants - not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue.

Q: Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 million undocumented immigrants?

A: No, I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. We have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.

Q: So you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?

A: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

=====

Took no action on Alaska's "sanctuary cities" Lou Dobbs notes that at least two of Alaska's cities have been officially designated as sanctuary cities: "An August 14, 2006 report produced by the Congressional Research Service listed 31 cities and counties that have 'don't ask, don't tell' sanctuary policies in place. They [include] Anchorage, Alaska [and] Fairbanks, Alaska. Alaska and Oregon both have state-wide policies that forbid state agencies from using resources to enforce federal immigration law."

Apparently, this is by design from the highest levels.

In fact, a resolution to that effect was passed in the Alaska state legislature in 2003 (before Palin's election): "[Alaska] House Joint Resolution 22 - May 2003: Establishes that state agencies and instrumentalities may not use state resources or institutions for the enforcement of federal immigration laws, which are the responsibility of the federal government."

It’s not clear whether Gov. Palin has ever weighed in, pro or con, on Alaska’s sanctuary policies.

Tightened restrictions on illegal alien's drivers licenses

There has been an ongoing fight in Alaska over drivers' licenses for illegals. A bill banning drivers' licenses for illegals passed the Alaska state senate in 2003 [before Palin was elected governor]: "JUNEAU (AP) - The state Senate approved a bill that tightens the standards for getting a driver’s license by requiring applicants prove they are in the country legally and by placing time limits on licenses for legal aliens."

The measure did not pass into law. In any event, Palin's DMV subsequently tightened the administrative regulations on drivers' licenses, thereby giving rise to a lawsuit by some folks who found the new restrictions inconvenient.

If you notice, most of what you posted is all flash. Theres no “go-get-em” type of suff there ( Arizona or Alabama laws) and chances are, what is there was done in an election year when Perry is known for “playing conservative.” The ID laws are really a joke and Perry knows that. People are busted here all the time for issuing fake credentials. The laws that would make a difference, like the sanctuary cities law, Perry works behind the scenes to derail thwm. His two largest campaign donors derailed that one. The CEO’s of HEB and Perry Homes. Bottom line, Perry has proven he can be bought, (gardasil) and he cannot be trusted.

Q: So you support a path to adoption for the squatter who moved into your property without your permission?

A: I do because I understand why someone would want to be a Palin. We’ve got a nice house and stuff.

Q: So you support amnesty for someone who raped your daughter?

A: I do because I understand why someone would want to rape her. She’s pretty.

I mean, come on! Sure, we all know “why they want to be in America” and why anyone commits ANY crime. It’s because they want stuff...OUR stuff. So let’s not prosecute any crime, then! Just be “compassionate” and let anyone get away with anything.

That ridiculous response of Palin’s is the main reason I can’t support her.

She’s compromised and said it once before...which means she’ll do it again if she decides she has to...

So, you reject everything else she's said about the subject, and base your final opinion of her upon her reiteration of her running mate's position during the 2008 campaign. Got it.

Seems extremely narrow minded to me, but ok. Just remember to hold your chosen candidate to the same narrow standard.

I don’t know much about him, so I am most willing to learn, from both sides and from my own reading

I can only hope that most Americans follow your lead and do their own due diligence before jumping on Perry's bandwagon.

Thanks for the kind words, my good friend.

Heh.... no, nothing wrong with my compass or equipment. It's Degrade. She's got Stage III PDS, poor thing. Delusions of grandeur and confusion are two of the hallmark symptoms.

That kind of rhetoric does nothing to inform other posters of fact and is only meant as incitement.

Wini, don’t speak sweatie.

Er, 'scuse me ma'am, but I'm not that sorta fella. I understand you're all hot and bothered, but I'm a married man. Sorry.

You and your clan are not perceived the way you think you are.

Well, considering that we make up 87% of the Free Republic membership, just how does the other 13% perceive us?

You can cow people all you like, but they can still email.

That's funny. We're cowing you? Hilarious.

It's sick and sickening, and speaks volumes about the ignorance of the poster. S/he doesn't bother with facts.

Definitely NOT an informed poster.

If this crap passes for a "conservative opinion", God help us!

You’re right. We Palin supporters ought to just shut up and listen to her detractors.

They may say demeaning and hurtful things to us, call us names, repeat the boilerplate talking points of the left, distort her record, refuse to honestly debate us, and generally express a constant state of agitation with us because we have the gall to make our own choice of who to support for president, but you’re right. We really should pipe down and be more civil to them.

And while we’re at it, we really should stop calling them “PDSers”. Perhaps “Palin Truthers” would be more appropriate.

I didn’t say she did; I said that such a plan would be consistant with the comment she did make. It was in response to the poster who suggested her comment would preclude her support of such a thing; I’m noting that it wouldn’t.

She could of course come out at any time and say whether she was for or against such a thing. I presume if she decides to run for President that she will say more about the issues, and probably have a campaign platform on her web site so we can see exactly what her position is on all these isseus, and stop having to guess based on answers to leading questions by talk show hosts with agendas.

Well, I have a different perspective. I was a 2008 Romney supporter of course, although I favored Fred Thompson until he dropped out. I no longer support him, and I support Sarah Palin, I like what she says, and I rarely disagree with her or attack what she is doing.

But I regularly get attacked with terms like PDS, and RomneyBot, and I was called me a deranged idiot. So I see name-calling allowed in some cases, while in others it is not.

I think that most recent post with the fake “Q&A” was way over the line, but unless that was the 3rd time I’d expect the post to be deleted and the freeper warned. I was sorry to see Pissant go, but his comment was crude.

I’ll say that in the past few days, these threads have gotten pretty heated, and while people have asked JR to take action, I haven’t seen people getting zotted except the retread, so maybe there is more freedom to attack people then I thought. Of course, I tend not to pay attention to who posts what, so often what appears to be a zot out of the blue is simply because I had no idea all of what someone was saying.

All of us argue with one another and call it “debate”. Post 364 doesn’t even rise to that level. It is an insulting smear and it was meant to inflame.

NOT GOOD for the Governor

The public's examination of Perry's record has only just begun. There's a lot there that he'll have to successfully defend, if he's to capture a winning percentage of the conservative vote in the primary.

Just a little warning to Perry supporters: Denial, spin, and attacks against those who question that record are not going to win Perry any votes.
