Does anyone else experience freeze-up of Internet Explorer when you try to navigate to Google?
From IE8 Help:
Why don’t some websites display correctly in Internet Explorer 8?
Websites that were designed for earlier versions of Internet Explorer might not display correctly in the current version. However, you can often improve how a website will look in Internet Explorer by using a new feature called Compatibility View.
When you turn on Compatibility View, the webpage you’re viewingas well as any other webpages within the website’s domainwill be displayed as if you were using an earlier version of Internet Explorer.
To turn on Internet Explorer Compatibility View
Open Internet Explorer.
Click the Tools button, and then click Compatibility View.
If Internet Explorer recognizes a webpage that is not compatible, you will see the Compatibility View button on the Address bar. To turn Compatibility View on or off, click the Compatiblity View button .
From now on, whenever you visit this website, it will be displayed in Compatibility View. However, if the website receives updates to display correctly in the current version of Internet Explorer, Compatibility View will automatically turn off.
Notes
Not all website display problems are caused by browser incompatibility. Interrupted Internet connections, heavy traffic, or website bugs can also affect how a webpage is displayed.
Don’t use Google or IE, but that’s just me.
My advice, change the name of Internet Explorer to This browser sux, download Firefox, and never use IE again. Internet Explorer is hands down the worst browser. If you want a second browser, try Opera. Don't let anyone talk you into using Chrome unless you enjoy being spied on by google. Bing works just fine, if you must use google go through Scroogle so they can't watch your every move. Always remember that using Google or Chrome is the same as letting the Obummers watch your every move. I installed Chrome on an old laptop I rarely used just to see what all it installed in my registry. Then I uninstalled it and put the registry cleaners to work. Pretty interesting. A few things you never want on your Microsoft computer, AOL software or tool bars, Chrome, Google or Yahoo tool bars, Real Player, anything that has the word Google or Yahoo in them. Just my opinion but you won't see me on here asking about computer problems.
Anyone that uses Google anything has a screw loose. JMHO.
So some things on Google don't work well with IE. The actual bugs are in IE, but Google isn't going out of their way to avoid those bugs any more.
Yes, that make sense. It had occured to me that this might be some sort of Microsoft vs. Google thing. I searched FR to see if there were any other mentions of the problem before I posted this thread. Didn't see any.
I've seen this problem since yesterday afternoon. As you may know, MS pushed out a big update chain on 11 August. Perhaps this had something to do with it.
no
I've tried Firefox. It's too different from IE, which I'm used to. OK, I'm not "with it." I'm a square. I admit it.
As far as Chrome goes, I don't trust Google enough to download a bunch of executable code from them. No way.
Let them 'do no evil' on someone else's machine.
Don’t automatically install updates unless you need them. If you think it is an update glitch, then roll back to an earlier date.
Well, yeah, but a lot of those updates were security-oriented. I don't care about Google that much; in fact, this experience has prompted me to use Dogpile more.
Other than this one thing, Win 7 is working fine for me. It'll probably get worked out. I note that there are two more Win 7 updates waiting to be downloaded...
I agree. I do use Google once in a while but I never go through Google, I go through Scroogle.

It's amazing how many software products and upgrades try to sneak a Google or Yahoo toolbar on to your machine. It requires constant vigilance to keep them out of your life.
Hmm. Scroogle. I’ll have to check into that.
Why is that?
Amen.
“”I don’t care about Google that much; in fact, this experience has prompted me to use Dogpile more.”
I seldom use Dogpile any more, although I was an early advocate. I now use IXQ because I like it’s security and privacy policies. Go here, and click on either IXQUICK or “private” to view their policies;
“Ixquick’s position:
You have a right to privacy.
Your search data should never fall into the wrong hands.
The only real solution is quickly deleting your data or not storing them to begin with.
Since January 2009 we do not record our users’ IP addresses anymore.
Your personal data are not shared with any third party.
We are the first and only search engine to do so.
Since then we have added many other features that protect your privacy.
Our initiative is receiving an overwhelmingly positive response!”
Why would any conservative want to use Google?
I just quit using google, and changed home page to another search engine. I was tired of them tracking me anyway.
You’ve got bad memory DIMMs. I used to build computers and rand the modules through a tester. About 23% were defective and couldn’t handle the load. I no longer have access to a memory tester and have found many modules defective. Even when not bought in bulk.
Some websites hard code in IE7, some IE8, etc. So use of Compatibility View may or may not work. IE8 causes CSS issues and broke expression use in scripts. Some issues could be due to the user blocking scriplets. Bottom line, there is no simple answer.
