Sitting here doing laundry and started thinking about what television series had/has the best theme song. I have two and I can't decide.
Bonanza and NCIS (Original series)
Anyone else?
Well, if we are gonna bring in cartoons, I vote for Speed Racer. As a kid, I watched the show mainly for the theme.
All in the Family
Hawaii Five 0
And because I’m a dork and it brings back good memories, The Walton’s
Combat
Beverly Hillbillies
LOL! Go go Speed Racer...
IMHO the 1960s produced the best TV show themes, but there are others that have emerged over the years, including in the 1980s, when themes seemed to bottom out, and the 1970s when they were mostly too mellow and/or wimpy (like the theme from “Taxi”).
“The Dick Van Dyke Show”
“Hogan’s Heroes”
“Here Come the Brides”
the tune “Linus and Lucy” which was used in the Peanuts specials
otoh, from the 1980s:
“MacGyver”
as someone already noted, the Drew Carey Show use of “Cleveland Rocks” (one of at least five themes used at least once for that show)
the theme for “Seinfeld” which was (like Jerry Seinfeld) unobtrusive and nondescript.
the theme from “Friends” which unfortunately died from overexposure.
Hawaii Five-0
Dallas
Gilligan’s Island
A-Team
Cheers
Hill Street Blues
St. Elsewhere
Magnum PI
Some other great ones IMO

The Rifleman. Mannix. Hawaii 5-0. The Big Valley.
NYPD Blue end of story
A tossup between the theme song from “Cheers” and “Green Acres” for me.
