NABLUS, West Bank (AP) Archaeologists unearthing a biblical ruin inside a Palestinian city in the West Bank are writing the latest chapter in a 100-year-old excavation that has been interrupted by two world wars and numerous rounds of Mideast upheaval.
Working on an urban lot that long served residents of Nablus as an unofficial dump for garbage and old car parts, Dutch and Palestinian archaeologists are learning more about the ancient city of Shekhem, and are preparing to open the site to the public as an archaeological park next year.

Shekhem beck ping.
Hmmm ... wasn’t it in Shecum that more than a few foreskins were detatched from their ‘hosts’ in retribution before being murdered?
Some of us still refer to Nablus as Arab-occupied Shechkem.
I demand that the Arabs allow a “right of return” to anyone claiming Shekhem heritage.
Are there any “Palestinian cities”, or are they Israelli cities Palestinians live in?
This is where I tell the story of the time I took a shard of slate and etched on it, in Paleo-Hebraic Script, “Jehoshuah poh” (Joshuah was here) and gave it to my OT professor at seminary while earnestly (with many nods and looking right into his eyes and not laughing) claiming I had found it at Jericho.
He started his next lecture by showing it to the class.
You were a bad boy.

Thanks decimon. So, how's everyone like the new (much smaller) ping message? |

Guess we'll all have to learn to tighten the belt in these hard times.
I wonder why the Romans moved the town to a new site. This wasn’t a normal practice of Roman occupations as far as I can remember. They weren’t averse to starting new towns, but this article says they abandoned the old city site.
Bad water source? Ghosts? Terrible refuse and sewage problem?
Do you consider the West Bank to be a Palestinian city, or an Israeli?
Sorry, make that a Palestinian “area”, or an Israeli one, not “city”.
That was so naughty.
Delightful.
Our OT prof was a great guy and thoroughly enjoyed ... and USED ... jokes to get his points home. The alleged point was that there were several cities on top of each other (like Troy) at the site of Jericho and nobody had found architectural evidence that Joshua had ever been there. So he had said, “Nobody has found a shard with ‘Joshua was here’ on it.”
So, of course.....
Probably for military reasons — the old site was indefensible, or the new site had better visibility to the surroundings.
It’s austerity, that’s right.
Look at the pics. Tremendous visibility because it wss built on top of mountain as were all those old fortified cities.
I doubt there was a better mount around since those old boys knew their defensible positions.
So how do you see that fact that Israeli's have made all the concessions ALL the time,
but Pali’s must always be prevented from getting access to Israeli civilians or they kill them!
Never heard of an airplane Hijacked by Israeli's and passengers killed. The reverse is NOT true.
So which group of people do you trust more with a gun in their hands holding high ground in a civilian area????????
Sense man, sense. Just past history and past actions.
