But I'll use some restraint and just leave the obvious unspoken.

Climbing over a guardrail and warning sign so you can fall to your death must at least merit an honorable mention in the Darwin Awards.

I’ve hiked to this spot. There is not a guardrail extending across the whole falls nor preventing you from going in the water. The story is inaccurate.

I lived in Hawaii many years ago. While I was there 6 teenage friends went to a waterfall for a hike & a swim. There’d been lots of rain, & the fall was really strong. One person swam too close & got pulled under. One after another, the friends went in after each other. The last guy had the sense not try. Very sad...

Amazing how fast a fun day can go bad. It must have been a horrible sight for the other hikers to see the three go over.

Tragic, and it also angers me. It angers me that these fools ignored the warnings. I've been to Yosemite many times and I've seen this time and time again. At the base of Yosemite water falls are a large group of rocks that are off limits. There are signs stating that fatal accidents occur yearly on these rocks. And yet there are people climbing all over these rocks. And I've seen people climbing all over these rocks with their children. That's how stupid and foolish many people are. These people should be arrested and charged with child endangerment. Tragic nonetheless.

they dies tried to save someone else. That doesn’t make them stupid, it makes them heroes. Their deaths were more honorable than most. in my judgment.

Vernal Falls, and it’s upstream companion, Nevada Falls, are utterly fearsome, especially at times of heavy runoff as I presume they are experiencing now from the unusually large Sierra snow pack of this past winter.
I’m sorry a similar fear wasn’t inspired in at least that one member of the group who’s recklessness led to his death and that of his companions.

The hikers on the Mist Trail can be some of the most inexperienced and unprepared out there. I've seen people try to make the Half Dome hike in sandals with their only other equipment being a bottle of water. The below pic is not of me, but it shows the rail isn't that tough to hop.

Now, if only the search teams don’t get injured or worse.
