Employee Announces He Quit on Sign (Forced to Work 22 Days in a Row for Taco Bell + July 4th)

A former employee at the Taco Bell / KFC at Transit and Losson Roads in Depew chose to make a bold statement when he decided to leave his position at the restaurant.

The employee left a message on the fast food restaurant's exterior sign Thursday night announcing he had quit. The sign reads, "I quit - Adam / **** you :)"

Welcome, readers from Fark and The Daily What! Here are some other stories you might like:

A co-worker of the supposed sign maker at Taco Bell / KFC tells News 4 that Adam is a shift manager at the restaurant who was denied time-off on the Fourth of July.

Adam claims he had worked 22 straight days and deserved the holiday off but was not granted it, despite the fact that other employees were allowed to take the day off.

Most people we spoke to found the sign amusing, and agreed with the stance the employee took. What do you think? Vote in the poll on this page and leave a comment below.

Buck up, crybaby. When I was in my 20’s I once worked 42 days without a day off. I’ve worked countless holidays over the years and was on call this last 4th of July with plenty of calls and overtime in the preceding week. Sacrificing your leisure is what gets you to your goals in the long run, dude.

Uuuuhh, is he allowed to collect unemployment compensation for being treated so harshly?

Managers and assistant managers at fast food places are often salaried, not hourly employees. It’s no wonder this guy was ticked off that he had to work so much. If you average it out, his pay was probably much less than minimum wage.

But he was still an idiot to quit the way he did.

He volunteered to work 4th of July at both because they paid double time for the holiday.

Adam probably did not get double time since he was management.

But forcing people to work over three weeks straight, without a break, (and who knows how long that pattern has been going on) is also wrong.

Thanks for your post. I agree with you.

I wonder how many of those on this thread who are trashing this kid (who already displayed a good work ethic by working all those days) would want their own child to be treated like this?

When you have to work 22 days in a row he had no time to smoke weed and play X-Box 360

Bingo. We have a winner.

This incident speaks volumes about the generation entering the workforce - sadly!

If he absolutely needed a rest, because he was exhausted, he should have told his boss that he wasn’t coming in the next day, and given his boss enough time to find a replacement.

He likely would still have a job.

Absolutely fast food manager isn’t a minimum wage job, if you can do enough math to multiply and devide you find it to be a below minimum wage job, at least in the prairie states. Typically it is salaried and runs on an 80 to 90 hour work week.

You know that going in though.

“Thank goodness the TA job was the one that spawned my career.”

Doing what, GETTING YOUR HANDS DIRTY. Pal, we live in an ‘information age’ (according to Al Gore). We don’t need dirty hands anymore. GET IT?

I had a job once, where I had to work 6 months in a row, in a hot greasy factory.

While nowhere near as bad, I had a project where I had to work 80 hour weeks for 6 months in order for the project to meet the deadline. But I was a contractor getting paid by the hour, so at the end of the project I had the money to make the down payment on my house.

So Adam will get his proverbial 15 minutes of fame, but in the end he will be forgotten.<<<

Yeah......but he'll also get his 99 months of unemployment benefits plus his food stamp credit card...

He may be doing what is in his own self interest..

I do tend to agree with you. This was a shift manager. So many are thinking only 8 hours, which is often not the case at all with a shift manager. They will often stay later to balance register drawers and handle shift issues that spill over into the next shift. (And when I was one for a major dept. store...that did not mean extra $$) The financial incentive was not provided to work overtime, for a shift lead it is discouraged as a means of demonstrating and improving your efficiency as a potential manager.

Twenty-two days straight in that kind of an environment is just plain mean and wrong.

This sounds more like a manager or management team trying to drive a team member out. Which, means they didn’t have a reason to fire him.

As a Shift Lead at Taco Bell, your position will be an important part for the restaurant’s leadership team. Shift Leads assist on training new Team Members and scheduling work shifts to ensure that it will run efficiently. Being a Shift Lead is an important stepping stone to being promoted to become an Assistant Manager. Major responsibilities include training and motivating new and old Team Members, interact with customers, and manage customer issues while maintaining the highest quality of products and services. Shift Leads also need to monitor all service equipment and supplies during their shift and make sure that everything is in working condition.

Taco Bell Shift Lead Hourly Salary: $9.13

"Well, our troops get to shoot back."
Not at their employer!

Another four years of Obama, and I won't be surprised by ANYTHING the troops do.

What is Adam going to do when he finds out he had to work 102 days straight just to pay Uncle Sam this year, with April 12th being the Tax Freedom Day this year?

I've done a lot worse
It was called Medical School, Internship, Residency
I was heavily... motivated

I've worked 48hrs without sleep
I've worked continuous 36 hr shifts
I've worked hard 12 hour shifts daily for months without break
No weekends off, no Holidays
at Charity Hospital, in New Orleans...
It was vicious

Of course,
I have recurring nightmares of it 30 yrs later
There are broad periods where I have no memory of what I did
Probably shaved 5 years off my life

If he didn't like it, he should have just quit
The sign was “over the top”
