What movie do you love that most people never heard of or seen? Mine is a movie called "Evenhand". I first saw it on IFC, then ordered a copy from Amazon. It is about two policemen in a small Texas town. One is meek and kind while the other is hard. They form a unlikley friendship. It is more plot driven, with little violence. The writing is pretty good.
The Lost Skeleton of Cadaver - A dedicated scientist, aided by his clueless wife, rolls up his shirt sleeves and tries to save the world from a radioactive monster.
The young soldiers represent their country and their generation very well. We owe it to them to listen to their story.
King Rat
Sometimes a Great Notion (1972): Paul Newman and Henry Fonda
Galaxy Quest
For years it was not available either on tape or DVD. Recently found it on DVD. One of my favorite movies of all times and an excellent light-hearted take on Steinbeck. For me it was pure entertainment.
I have lived within the same 10 square mile area of central WV for my entire life. Even I was amazed by that movie.
Accurate, but extraordinary. Usually, you’d have to drive far up a “holler” to find such people, and I don’t run into them often. Even though it paints WV in a negative light, I have to say that it is one of the most fascinating movies that no one has ever seen, and I would recommend it.
It is easy to get caught up in all that is going on and have a good laugh, until you realize that this is really how these people live, and they have children.
Personally, though, my favorite is Buffalo ‘66. I challenge you to find a character in that movie that’s not a complete basket case, in an exaggerated, but still almost believable way. Hilarious from start to finish.
Should be *Cadavra*
“The Straight Story.” Starring Sissy Spacek and Richard Farnsworth with a cameo by Harry Dean Stanton, it was Richard Farnsworth’s last film.
This entire little film is wonderful and the final scene will choke up anyone with a beloved but seldom seen brother.
The Assassination of Richard Nixon (Sean Penn)
Yes, I know, I don’t agree with his politics or attempts at international diplomacy either, but I do enjoy his acting.
Funny, clever and captures the insanity & culture of the late 60's as well as being a bit prophetic.
“Moon.” Sam Rockwell was robbed of an Oscar. Excellent movie.
“The Counterfeiters.”
“Cinema Paradiso.”

Summary from IMDB: David, a 12-year-old, escapes from a Communist concentration camp with little more than a compass, a sealed letter, a loaf of bread, and instructions to carry the letter to Copenhagen, Denmark. David is thrust into the free world for the first time in his young life as he travels across Europe. His spiritual voyage of discovery, where David slowly loses his instinctive mistrust of humanity and begins to smile, share, trust and ultimately, love, addresses the cruelties, politics, and suffering of warfare while celebrating the resilience of youth and the unbreakable spirit of a child.
A great movie, Henry Fonda and Paul Newman battling the union. I can't think of a movie that had a better character than the one Fonda played.
It's never been released on DVD as far as I know but it's recently become available on Netflix instant view. Highly recommend it be checked out while it's still available.
I liked Lady Chatterly's Lover, Hanover Street, and many foreign films. One I remember quite a bit was about Victor Hugo's daughter but can't remember the title without looking it up, think it was her first name.
For gory geekdom- Repo, The Genetic Opera.
