I have lived within the same 10 square mile area of central WV for my entire life. Even I was amazed by that movie.
Accurate, but extraordinary. Usually, you’d have to drive far up a “holler” to find such people, and I don’t run into them often. Even though it paints WV in a negative light, I have to say that it is one of the most fascinating movies that no one has ever seen, and I would recommend it.
It is easy to get caught up in all that is going on and have a good laugh, until you realize that this is really how these people live, and they have children.
Personally, though, my favorite is Buffalo ‘66. I challenge you to find a character in that movie that’s not a complete basket case, in an exaggerated, but still almost believable way. Hilarious from start to finish.
Ever see Matewan?
