Bristol Palin says she had corrective jaw surgery

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Bristol Palin admits her recent change in appearance was due to a procedure - but not plastic surgery.

The 20-year-old daughter of 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin tells Us Weekly that she underwent corrective jaw surgery in December, a month after she finished third on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars." Her face now appears thinner, with higher cheekbones and an angular jaw.

The new look, complete with Palin losing 5 pounds, was unveiled April 30 at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington, D.C.

"Yes, it improved the way I look, but this surgery was necessary for medical reasons," she told the magazine for its May 23 issue, which will be on newsstands Friday.

Palin said she had the procedure so her jaw and teeth could properly realign.

I had a rhinoplasty for a deviated septum, and also to enlarge the turbinates. Nothing much changed about the outward appearance of my nose; it simply was straighter and no longer bent to the right.

I also have TMJ disfunction and have to wear a nightguard when I sleep; otherwise I get pain in the jaw joint.

I doubt Bristol had it done for her appearance as she was already quite attractive.

You can definitely see a family resemblance with her mom in that second photo. They hardly even look like the same person, though...either that first one was a really bad picture or she’s lost more than five pounds (or else she lost it all from the neck up).

Actually it wasn't very painful. At least not until my older brother came into ICU and yanked on my catheter! I was under the knife for 6+ hours. Having your jaw wired shut for 6 weeks is the real inconvenience. And 2 years of orthodontics to get everything properly aligned.

One thing that I still have trouble with is my jaw has a tendency to pop every once in a while...

Bill Clinton's daughter had some really, really, really serious jawline reconstruction that involved the upper and lower jaw.

She didn't appear in public for over a year while it healed ~

I don't think she admits it yet but it's pretty obvious.

Girl I went to high school with had exactly the same problem ~ once you hit your early 20s you can do the surgery if you can afford it.

The Palin girl could very well have had some "ill fitting" teeth ~ that distorted her bite. This is exceedingly common in some ethnic groups and with mixed race folks.

Not to be ridiculed.

Because the liberals trash anything done by any Palin, and because she’s been in the public eye on her own, Bristol Palin has been attracting attention with her new appearance. I guess they thought it necessary to address the issue.

It is not a must have. My parents chose not allow the surgery even though it was recommended by every dentist and orthodontist I saw until my wisdom teeth came out about age 24. My current dentist has told me that everything is fine and the biggest reason, pockets in gums, don’t exist.

She’s a lovely young lady. Good for her. I will never understand the need to tear someone apart because they’re prettier, more successful, wealthier, happier, etc.

This is the real deal. My grandson will eventually have to have the jaw surgery. His teeth LOOK perfect, but because of a misalignment he can’t bite..i.e. a sandwich. He has to clamp down and tear off a bite. Another of my 4 grandsons has TMJ, and that will require surgery to remedy also. Jaw problems are real and not at all pleasant.

If someone wants to believe the difference in the photos is "5 pounds", I have some Federal Approved oil drilling rights certificates in Alaska to sell you.

Sad to see so many mean-spirited comments about this young lady.

Yes. Apparently we have a lot of perfect people on this forum. Would love to see the images of those who disparage every little detail of this girl. Likely would be room for improvement.

>>>Doubt that will silence the anti-Palin douchebag brigade, but one can try.

Several of the comments above so far are evidence. Bristol could have said what one wazoo wished above in regard to ‘admitting have some work done to look better’ and the same wazoo would bitch about that too. Haters gotta hate.

“As conservatives, we take pride in honesty and not lying”.

As a conservative, I think the girl has the right to change her appearance. Personally, I think she should have not answered questions about the change with a “no comment” answer or none of your business answer.

“If you don’t have a good bite it is medically good.”

You are correct. Many years ago some idiot tried to rip my purse off. I opened my mouth, bared my teeth, and whamoooo. I bit into the soft part of his arm. I was too busy biting to know what part exactly. Every
time he tugged at my purse, I clamped down harder and deeper with my teeth.

He finally pulled away…without my purse. I was left with the taste of blood in my mouth. I suddenly thought of AIDS. I didn’t get myself checked. But I am still here feeling just fine. I am lucky he was not AIDs positive.

He was the one who was going to need medical attention. The human bit is one of the dirtiest around.

Thank goodness for a good bit.
