My middle son is a (straight) professional actor in a major metropolitan area. He asked me to name my favorite movie fights/action pics of all time. I figured I'd put it to the FReeper community of military, martial arts, movie buffs and various masters of mayhem to help come up with the best of the best.
That is one bad father/son complex.
I like the Raiders of the Lost Ark fight scene with Indy and the big German guy at the airplane. Also the swordfight scene in the Star Trek reboot on the space drill. Perhaps we could add a category: best swordfight.
That was Julie Dreyfus a different actress than Julia Louis-Dreyfus from Seinfeld. That would have been pretty funny though.
Basil Rathbone was a fencing instructor as well as an incredible actor. He worked with many of the stars at that time on the dueling scenes, including both Victor Mature and Erol Flynn
Regarding these two, he stated that Victor Mature could "fence circles" around Erol Flynn!!
The Great Race had one of the all time best pie "fights" in movie history.
Thanks!!!!
I’m sorry, I don’t recognize it.
Consider it added.
“Im sorry, I dont recognize it.”
Warriors
Another not thought of great duel I will submit, is “whippersnapper” Walter Matthau taking the hide off of unarmed Burt Lancaster in “The Kentuckian”...
Dang, what you have mentioned seems to be above my pay grade. I’ll have to look for those online.
“Warriors, come out and play ...”
Cult classic.
Equalibrium, with Christian Bale. As soon as I saw that, I thought to myself, this guy should be the next Batman...

1979 film, maybe not the best special effects or choreography, but the context and the music help heighten the tension.
The context: Based loosely on Homer’s The Oddyssey, framed around NY street gang warfare. The Warriors gang gets caught far out of their territory in NY City and have to travel back home with every gang in NY instructed to kill them.
They have to deal w/ a number of challenges in addition to the constant threat of violence, including divided forces and a leadership fight between two of the Warriors’ top leaders (Swan and Ajax). In this scene they put aside their differences and kick Yankee fans’ butts, ha ha ha.
IP Man, top 10 all time favorite movies, watch this fight.

Rent the movie, terrific
One on One: J.E. Freeman (Eddie Dane) and Gabriel Byrne (Tom Reagan) in ‘Miller’s Crossing’. Great punch-out mixed with wonderful lines from the Dane.
Bar Scene: John Wayne, Robert Mitchum and James Caan opposite Christopher George, Ed Asner and his gang in ‘El Dorado’. Not a lot of action, but Mitchum is POed, hung over and scarier than Hell.
War Scene: The ‘Little Bird’ strafing run in ‘Black Hawk Down’. Clinton tax dollars and urban renewal in action!
Sci-Fi Scene: The Thing getting set ablaze with kerosene and a flare pistol in ‘The Thing From Another World’.
Gun Fight: The final shoot-out in ‘The Wild Bunch’.
Best Fight/Action Film: The Wild Bunch.
Jack.
