How to keep cat out of baby's crib
San Antonio Express News ^ | 04/03/2011 | Cathy M. Rosenthal

Posted on 04/04/2011 9:50:00 AM PDT by Responsibility2nd

Dear Cathy: How do you train a cat to stay out of a crib? We’re about to have a baby and I don’t want the cat getting into the crib at night?

Erlene

Dear Erlene: To discourage your cat from getting in the crib before the baby comes, place double-sided tape (available at pet stores) or aluminum foil in the crib. When the cat jumps in, he or she won’t like the texture and will most likely jump out. After a few attempts, your cat should stop trying to get into the crib. Of course, please remove the foil and tape from the crib when your baby arrives.

However, the best way to keep your cat out of the crib is to make sure the cat is not in the room when you leave it, then close the door and use a monitor to listen for your baby.

I agree with Fawn. Cat threads are for people who love and celebrate cats. For those of us who love our pets dearly seeing the pictures of dead cats and nasty heartless remarks can be sad and disheartening. Please if the post are nasty towards cats keep them off the cat threads.

You are not alone! ;-)

I hiss at mine when they do something like jump up on the counter in the kitchen. It works very well because they understand what it means, LOL!

I hope the actual disrupters are noted and admonished

How about you adhere to guidelines about NO profanity and NO personal attacks? That is why you were told to knock it off.

Thanks but I have two dogs and am very allergic to cats.

I have a 5 month old son so my heart is far from hard.

Cats are useless to me.

Ha! I’ll have to try that. I have two Siamese and understand their willfulness.

The male’s a little more apologetic when he’s done wrong, but the nickname for our female is “Last Word” the way she chatters back with each scolding and plows ahead with her nefarious deeds.

I fostered my daughter’s two indoor/outdoor cats for a while and they’ll go after any type of rodent. I stepped over quite a large variety that were lovingly delivered to our doorstep.

“Last Word”, classic for Siamese. These rascals are pretty funny at times. My female thinks she’s Queen of the Jungle. She’ll take on a tom cat twice her size. I’ve had to break up many loud cat stand offs in the middle of the night. Guess I’ll have to start locking the kitty door. Her best mousing is at night though.

Yes, cats do understand “kitty speak”!

Interestingly, I never see people who are allegic to dogs say dogs are useless.

For the record, we have 3 or 4 cats at any time, typically in the barn -— for snakes and mice

We keep an equal number of larger dogs -— for coyotes and two-legged critters that need to be removed, typically dobermans, as it is very hot here.

Technically, this was a baby thread, not a cat thread.

The question was how do we protect our baby.

Put a cage around the kid, like any self-respecting parent would do.

Ok. Fair enough. I got it. I had to look for that rule and found it here:

Please enjoy our forum, but also please remember to use common courtesy when posting and refrain from posting personal attacks, profanity, vulgarity, threats, racial or religious bigotry, or any other materials offensive or otherwise inappropriate for a conservative family audience. Free Republic is a non-commercial site.

I hope that other people will refrain from the above in bold type so that these types of arguments don't happen in the first place. It pops up every cat thread. Postings on how to cut the tendons of a cat so it can't jump and dead cat pictures are offensive (also against the rules) and can really hurt people....

You made me LOL.

Then you made me think, will anybody react to your pictures like they did to the cat pictures?

Drop it now - just because you are offended it does not therefore mean the rest of FR is offended.
