How to keep cat out of baby's crib
San Antonio Express News ^ | 04/03/2011 | Cathy M. Rosenthal

Dear Cathy: How do you train a cat to stay out of a crib? We’re about to have a baby and I don’t want the cat getting into the crib at night?

Erlene

Dear Erlene: To discourage your cat from getting in the crib before the baby comes, place double-sided tape (available at pet stores) or aluminum foil in the crib. When the cat jumps in, he or she won’t like the texture and will most likely jump out. After a few attempts, your cat should stop trying to get into the crib. Of course, please remove the foil and tape from the crib when your baby arrives.

However, the best way to keep your cat out of the crib is to make sure the cat is not in the room when you leave it, then close the door and use a monitor to listen for your baby.

What I did was to buy a bifold door that was paneled (solid) on the bottom and had dowels that you could look through at the top and easily hear the baby. They couldn’t bump the door open or jump thru the top. We installed the door so it opened out into the hall so if the big cat pushed against it it wouldn’t open.

Put cat-hating small dog in crib. Problem solved.

Why is it that no one will walk into your house and look at your dog and say, “I hate dogs”, but feel free to walk in, look at the cat and say, “I hate cats”? And don’t tell me everyone loves dogs, because they don’t.

LOL. I hope you weren’t mean to that kitty. He was just exercising his rights as a cat.

“What do cats do to rattle snakes?”

Find them, torture them, and either kill them or drive them away.

I’ve sat and watched (on and off as I went about my business) a cat f—k with rattle snake for 8+ hours until the snake got tired & made a mistake -— and then, DEAD.

Snakes (like aligators) are “ambush preditors.”

They can’t take being messed with a long time, and eventually just give up.

I don’t understand people that don’t like any animals—dog or cat, but I also don’t quite understand people that just like cats or just like dogs. We’ve always had both—they are both enjoyable and cats can be very loving/friendly.

>>> How are they for moles?

The meat hunter I had would leave his mole & vole kills neatly dead & intact. Picky eater when it came to things that tasted of the earth, methinks.

I never heard about that one. That looks particularly egregious and cruel. It’s amazing that she survived. I double that they’ll find the rest of the kittens. From the article, it seems that they have a sociopath on their hands in that neighborhood.

Did you show it to Slings and Arrows?

Looks like they did find her kitties. The mom had a hurt eye and a chipped tooth. This one happened this past December. They said in the news report of the first link that she had something bad happen to her before and some other cats in the same complex were abused. Hope they found her a good home and her kitties too.

Both cats and dogs are good for people.

Take the time to go to this slide show (27 beautiful slides) and read the comments on the side to understand why having pets including cats can be very good for you. I might suggest for you that having a loving pet helps to keep the heart from growing so hard also.------

Excerpt form slide 5:

Cats and Dogs Good for the Heart Research has shown the long-term benefits of owning a cat include protection for your heart. Over the 20 years of one study, people who never owned a cat were 40% more likely to die of a heart attack than those who had....

Also from other studies:

However, a growing number of studies have suggested that kids growing up in a home with "furred animals" -- whether it's a pet cat or dog, or on a farm and exposed to large animals -- will have less risk of allergies and asthma, he tells WebMD.

I just saw this....and I have to assume you did not see that the same group of disrupters —as was pointed out by another poster— always come into the cat threads and disrupt us. I did not start this. They post dead cat pictures, talk about killing cats, shooting cats and start fights. They are disrupters and some of have asked for help with these losers. They NEVER let us have a nice thread. The dead cat picture was taken down by another moderator, but I see it is back. I hope the actual disrupters are noted and admonished.
