I got Butler when he was a puppy, which was very wise
A handsome Dalmatian/Dane mix just made for exercise
Leashed a few steps behind, while I jogged around
The block in order to lose and keep off a few unwanted pounds
A lot of fun in color co-ordinated Reeboks and Sweats
My Good Boy didn't even flinch as we would sometimes jog past the Vets!

As Butler grew up, so did his endurance and his stride
To the point that if I didn't keep up, it might wound his pride
Spending lots of hours running side by side
An excellent choice of a pet with whom to be allied

Yet, when I spend a lot of time to get dressed up to the Nines
My Butler becomes an entirely different breed of Canine!
His head is on a swivel as we exit the lobby's ornate door
Butler ignores the Doorman, but notes the whistlers galore

His body appears relaxed, but we both know it is wound up tight
Always ready to respond to any overt sign of misbehavior or slight
Until we are both clear of what Butler deems a Danger Zone
When his pace will slow and gait loosen all on its own
And then sometimes Butler will stop then slip from the left to right side
Smiling Boyishly as the leash wraps snug and then begins to ride!
