Wow, that is an oldie, isn’t it? Thank you, Gail. I posted a real old hymn this morning (my post #1862). Remember Trust and Obey? It was a pretty version.

Then, what you call tags and what we call tags are totally different ‘tags’! Interesting!

Ok...unless we have a personalized license plate, it goes with the vehicle. Our ‘tags’ have to be renewed yearly. (And, they charge waaaay tooooo much!)

Moving Past Sinful Failure
April 21, 2011

How should we handle moments of faith-failure, when we’ve damaged the kingdom of God in the eyes of our friends and family or dishonored God in our actions?

We can learn from King David after his humiliation in the Bathsheba scandal. Though the terrible consequences of that sin could not be avoided, he found his way back to a relationship with God that made it possible for him to continue to serve Him. We too can find our way back.

David’s pattern in 2 Samuel 12 serves us well: We need to declare our error candidly (v.13) and seek God’s forgiveness. Then we can ask God that others be spared the consequences of our actions (v.16). Finally, we need to recognize that sometimes the consequences simply cannot be avoided and must be endured. While we always mourn those consequences, we can’t allow them to so consume us that we cease to be servants of God (vv.20-23).

Satan not only delights in the moment of our failure but also in the spiritual inactivity that sometimes snares us in our remorse. When we’ve blown our witness, we are and should be humbled. But we should not multiply the damage by retreating into silence and obscurity as ambassadors of Christ. We can move past failure.

Action Suggestion
If after you’ve confessed your sin to God, you still suffer
with guilty feelings, memorize Proverbs 24:16 and
1 John 1:9 and ask God to help you believe His Word.

God forgives our sins completely
to restore us to His presence and service.

Read: 2 Samuel 12:1-23

I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins. —Isaiah 43:25
Bible in a year:
2 Samuel 12-13; Luke 16

WE ARE LIKE CHILDREN IN A GREAT PARK
. by Rabbi Joshua Loth Liebman

We are like children
privileged to spend a day in a great park,
A park filled with many gardens
and azure-tinted lakes
With white boats sailing upon tranquil waves.

True the day allotted to each one of us
is not the same in length,
In light, in beauty.

Some children of earth
are privileged to spend a long and sunlit day
in the garden of the earth.

For others the day is shorter,
cloudier, and dusk descends more quickly
as in a winter's tale.

But whether our life
is a long summery day
or a shorter wintry afternoon,

we know that inevitably
there are storms and squalls
which overcast even the bluest heaven,
and there are sunlight rays
which pierce the darkest autumn sky.

The day that we are privileged
to spend in the great park of life
is not the same for all human beings,
but there is enough beauty and joy
and gaiety in the hours
if we will treasure them.

Then, for each of us, the moment comes
when the great nurse, Death,
takes each of us children by the hand
and quietly says;

“Come. It is time to go home. Night is coming.”
“It is your bedtime, child of the earth.
Come, you're tired.
Lie down at last
in the quiet nursery of nature and sleep.

Sleep well. The day is gone.
Stars shine in the canopy of eternity.”

An American and his wife were driving in Canada and got lost.

Finally they came into some city. They saw a gentleman on the sidewalk, so the gentleman pulled up to the curb, and the lady let down her window and asked: “Excuse me, sir. Where are we?”

The gentleman on the street replied, “Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.”

The lady rolled up the window, turned to her husband and said,

“We really are lost. They don’t even speak English here!”

The unfolding of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. PSALM 119:130

On a rainy December day in December 1925, U.S. Army pilot Carl Crane was flying a congressman’s son back to Washington, DC, when he became disoriented in a thick expanse of clouds. He was 8,000 feet over Detroit. With no gyroscope on his instrument panel to tell him his rate of turn, he didn’t know if he was flying level with the earth or was banking into a free fall. Soon, he had swooped into a spiral dive and had lost complete control of the aircraft.

But attempting any rescue move was a gamble. If he tried to level the wings, he was just as likely to roll upside down as right side up. If he tried to raise the nose, he might simply drive the plane more sharply into the ground. Finally, with his altitude shrinking to under 1,000 feet, he caught sight of the sign for the Statler Hotel. He had just missed clipping the top of it. He now had only seconds to pull up. But with the lights of the buildings giving him guidance and perspective, he righted his plane and found his way to the Detroit River, which he followed back home, “shaking all the way.” For us, the words of the Scriptures are like the lights of Detroit were to Crane on that misty night. They are divine points of perspective that give us our true bearings in every situation. They explain why we behave the way we do—and which way to turn when we’ve lost our way. If we will follow the Scriptures like the pilot followed the river, we will be led to a safe landing. The trip may be bumpy. There may be some jostling during the flight. But the way will be made plain. God’s Word will guide us home.

Jesus in All Sixty-Six

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5

The thing I love about the Old Testament is the thing I love about the New Testament. The Old Testament and the New Testament both are the inspired Word of God. Don’t get the idea that the Old Testament has a message different from the New Testament. All of the Bible is about Jesus. If you read the Bible and you don’t find Jesus, you better go re-read it.

Somebody may ask if you have read the four gospels, and you can answer them, “I’ve read all sixty-six!”

From Genesis to Revelation,

It has the same villain – Satan.
It has the same hero – Jesus.
It has the same purpose – to present salvation in no other name but Jesus.

Read Isaiah 53. What are the prophecies that were fulfilled in the life of Christ?
