Heh, heh! Thanks!

When my wife and I were in Cancun, our fellow `turistas’ made the trip and said “Chicken Pizza” wasn’t that big a deal. But they brought back some souvenir pix; the statue of the Mayan priest wearing somebody else’s recently flayed hide was a real hoot. Boy that must have itched!

After that I didn’t care what the Spaniards did in Mexico as long as they stamped out the practice of human recycling.

And what’s this Mayan 2012 end of the world garbage, anyway?

Ah! Thank you for that bit of information, Elcid. The hubby and I were in Cancun, too, about a year ago and, since there’s NO air conditioning—at least not anywhere we were, it seemed—I had heat exhaustion. We didn’t dare go on the long ride to Chicken Pizza, where it probably would have gone into heat stroke. Sounds like we didn’t miss anything!

We were there as a family fairly early the day we went, before it got crowded. The kids were running up and down those steep steps and I went into that room at the top where I surprised a woman doing a meditative version of what looked like Tai Chi (oriental martial art/dance/meditation technique).

She looked at me with an embarrassed grin and decided it was safe to tell me how much more advanced the civilization was that built this pyramid. She went on and on about how inferior our culture was to theirs, so, being a bit mischievous, I pointed to where they did their sacrifices and said "and that's the side they threw the bodies off after cutting the hearts out, it's said they often sacrificed thousands in a day."

The look on her face....

Priceless.

Your kids ran up and down those steep stairs? I cannot believe it. There was a rope their when I went up and most people were sitting and going down step by step. It’s really steep.

My wife and I visited Copan and it must have been their off season. No one was there and we had the “city” to ourselves. It was awesome and much less developed than the Mexican sites.

I would have bought pants and a shirt before I got a car, but I consider myself civilized.

It’s a really awesome sight when that shadow/light snake starts crawling down the temple—especially when you realize that the thing was constructed by a ‘backward’ civilization that had not exploited the wheel.

The video is not the best at showing the event nor of the best angle shots to show off the temples and carvings. There are several more on YouTube.

None of them are as good as mine, he boasted modestly.

:’) Yeah, I can see how piling up a bunch of rocks would mislead people into thinking the rock-pilers were superior.

Yes, very, very steep, so it was just two of them.

Four times.

Show offs. They wanted to remind dear old dad he was just that. I had my fun with the crazy meditator at the top though.
